A 283 project just getting started

I talked with Jason yesterday and he is just getting back to my project after waiting on a few odds and ends to get it buttoned up. He is thinking I can pick it up mid week or so and planning to take it to the local lake for a camping trip over the weekend. I have alot to do to clean it up and get it to the Cumberland Rally if all goes well. We also just rigged a 1985 Diplomat 5.0 that my youngest son bought a couple months back . It just went for a 2 hour water test and he was all smiles ripping up the lake with no issues. Proud Dad for sure. More to come and a safe holiday weekend to all. :thumb::cheers:

That diplomat is sweet too. Saw it in person and i think its a cool boat. I wish i had such a dad to go checkmate boating together!

Awesome news. Can't wait to see you and Cam hit the water together.

This Diplomat project went smooth thanks to Dave for donating the exhaust manifolds and camshaft also Ron for the mint flywheel. It was a v6 boat and he bought it with a nice 305 sitting in it but not rigged. Kunkels rigging my 283 loosened up my time to get Cams boat on the water. Life is good and with any luck that father son run is about to happen this weekend. After loosing my dad at 14 years old due to a motorcycle accident , I am all in on any adventure with my kids. These are the things I live for lol. :thumb::thumb:

Yes Linn I am happy to get it back. Kunkels has been great to work with and due to the boat sitting for 11years there has been several electrical gremlins along the way. Jason is a class act and dedicated to seeing this project through like the outstanding professional he is !! If Action Marine was still dominating the high performance boat scene in Detroit, I would have had Sammie work this Convincor over. Both of these companies operate on old time principles and nothing but respect from this guy !!

Thank you Jeff

OMG, holy frikin chit, how the f*#k have I been missing this awesome build ?????????

PC, this Checkmate and power plant is coming out awesome, sorry for coming into the thread so late......

I'm loving that boat, can't wait to see the finished project. :bigthumb::bigthumb:

Kurt thanks for you kind words . Its been one of them projects you say hmmm, what was I thinking as it has been mega road time Nj for the hull, In. For the motor, Oh for the newer trailer, Oh to Kunkels to drop it off and headed back to Oh to Kunkels fri its looking like. The exhaust was shipped from Ny thank god ! Still have more plans for it this winter. Custom aluminum swim platform, dual hydraulic steering, stronger driver with a shorty lower and a tricked out paint job to modernize a bit. We were considering going south with it in the fall to extend our summer but that is still up in the air. I will be running the Bravo 1 until grenades or the summer ends whichever comes first.i now get to detail it and enjoy for a bit .thanks all.

That boat is coming together great. Now, if you could find a chiller and a small pulley that would about do it!

Thanks .That is the plan and it will barely all fit under the hatch. The boat had a similar single carb chiller set up last whipple powered. That will require a beefy drive first but on the lookout for the parts. It finally will hit the lake Saturday and the weather is looking great .

I know Problem Child where you are coming from. I decided after I did my mods that I was at my comfort level. 8 years later, I have not grenaded a motor or a drive. My boat runs perfect every time it gets wet. Not the fastest or the slowest but a great boat overall. That's probably what you have in mind. Good Luck, but I think a 600sc and a 283 is a great combo!

Sounds good Jeff, definitely a runner! Let me know if I can help you with anything.

Well since you asked , how about $10k or so haha :eyecrazy:Thanks Barry i really appreciate it !

Old Navy I am most interested in reliability, my wife dont like fast although she still talks happy about running 96 in the Punisher lol. The blower is a bit tough on shifting the Bravo into gear is my biggest concern on the drive . Just need to splash it before I see whats next . Ill pick up a go pro at wally world and get some vids up.

Your a legend Sammie and a great friend ! Thanks for all the help you have sent my way. Jeff :thumb::):)

Well a little update on the boat. I picked it up Sat morning from Kunkels and was very impressed with the rigging Jason and Harold did . With a big ole grin on my face after starting her up and running it for a while we discussed future plans for the boat. its funny how time flies by hanging out there and looking at all the cool hardware. He has a friends 43 Donzi triple Ilmors sitting on a brand spanking new custom built/painted trailer Jason designed . Once the sting wore off and we made it home I installed the drive and that is where the domino effect took place hehe. First I should say that the only thing I had Kunkels do is rig the motor I installed, wire the ignition ,build a fuel system, new tips, all new cooling plumbing/system and get it running. I am very happy with the time and detail they put into my project. After the drive went on , the trim rams were froze up due to sitting in storage since 2004, the power hatch actuator decided to stop working, my bilge wants to cycle whenever it wants and The shift linkage was binding going into drive. I ordered trim cylinder rebuild kits Tues. and put that together last night after running to Detroit to the original Acculift facility that told me to run it down and he will match it up with a new one for $360. I love doing business with the small mom and pop shops as he told me , heck your actuator is nice and if you go grab some lunch for an hour I will drop what Im doing and rebuild yours with a new motor for $120. I put that on tonight after painting it up and planning to splash her tomorrow night or Saturday. It Idles down nice and low for a roots blower system . Im really digging the project now that I have been wrenching on it and seeing the work closing in on some lake time.
