1600 Miles+$600 in Gas = Merc 280

Well-known member
Went on a "little" road trip this weekend and here is what I ended up with for the back of my new 2100.

I am so damn excited I have trouble getting to sleep at nite!!!

This is a 280 offshore with the ROS ecu bumped to 8850rpm, sportmaster l/u w/1.75 gears. Does Wildman or anyone know what this motor might do on my boat? (10" of SB with hyd. slider)

Couple pics.

I'm glad to see your going with something a little more updated than an 2.4

You make the same point that I have been thinking for 2 months.

I still kept my 2.4 as a backup, so I have a complete backup incase of an emergency!

Thanks for the reply.:cheers

:bigthumb::cheers:banana:You'll be wearing a big grin after running that motor on you 2100!!! The wind resistance alone will pull your cheeks back!!!;)

I'll be curious to hear results and compare them with other 2100's with 300's, 250's and other monsters. I'm going to try to knockout an 85 on the GPS this season. Is that a 15" or 20" mid ? May want to look at swapping lower for a coned torque master ?(seems to be the popular choice of v-hulls) You'll have to get some videos of that thing running !

Keep us posted.

20" mid.

What are you running for a motor on your 2100?.....Any mod's?

I will try the sportmaster for now and if it doesn't provide what I am looking for, I will try something else...

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. I am definitely exploring some uncharted waters in my boating career.

hottdaddy what plate did you get the 10 inch cmc or the 5 no matter which way you got to meet kip he will set her up pretty good for you. I have a number in my mind hope you will share your results. what do you have for props sitting around. i think you will need a labed 28 and you should have a lot of fun remeber labbed prop will get you some free rpm to get one extra pitch that is why i think you will get the 28. maybe i will let you try one of my labbed props if we get to hook up
:cheers congrats you got one hell of a mate

I got the 10" hydrualic. Kip has been better then great....I tend to be a royal pain in the @$$ when I buy new toys, and this one has been no exception!

The problem with my current props is that they are almost all 24 pitch and fit the small dia. shaft that is on my 2.4. New lower unit has the fat shaft.

Sooooooooo, I am in the market for a new prop. I know there is a supporting vendor on this site, I would like to get ahold of him.

I also puchased a "torque-flow hub" (off-shore version??) from the guy. It was still in the box. I would like to use this, as it seems like it is a pretty cool concept.

Definitely want it labed, I have one but can't remember the cost of having it done. How much $$$$

Thanks again for the replys everyone, It keeps winter moving!

I'm running a 225 3.0L with a bunch of Simon Motorsports after market parts.

Just for reference, I turn a Labbed Trophy Plus 26 @ 6500 rpms for a speed of 83+ mph GPS. You're going to crank your rpms much higher. If you plan on turning 8800 rpms you'll have to prop low. I wouldn't be surprised if a 24-25 would work well for this. You should checkout Scream and Fly and see what some of those guys are running on their Hi-Po 2.5's. Make sure you compare v-hull's and not tunnel hulls. Your hull will be heavier than most of the light weight tunnels and small v's. As most will tell you trial and error is the best learning curve. All hull and engine combo's will react differently depending on setup and driving styles.

Good luck and keep us posted !

I have seen a few of the 3.0 L up here (not on Checkmates), and it seems as if they could pull a house out of the hole!

You are aiming for 85mph this season huh.....WOW:eyecrazy: What RPM can you turn out of that 3.0?

Is your Pulsare the one with the wider pad that I read about a while back?

At some point I would like to talk with you about setup on this boat.

Sounds like you got that thing pretty well dialed in!

Thanks

hottdady it would be cool if you had a guy in your area will have to do some searching, i got my prop from hydromotive at first i didnt think to much of them when it was a heavier boat but with that stv he went out to the lake and gave me a couple of props to run and really helped me out and showed me a major difference.

one prop on that stv cant be turned up you will go up and over to much bow lift on a air intrapment hull cant turn it past 5800 and it isnt a lack of horsepower it is just to much lift

then another 30 pitch spun to 7800 lifted the transom and away we go

so it is nice if you can get that from some one that will work with you

like i said kipster will have a pretty good idea were to get you started for a good all around boat and more i am sure. he has more experience with checkmates than anyone of us

I've probably turned close to 6600-6700. I have rev limit set out around 7000.

I have a stock pad(6 1/2")

I have a short video clip in the video area showing an 82.5 mph pass.

A good "friend" of mine(bluehealer) has just installed a 300x on his 2100 Pulsare. We not been able to get any good runs yet. I'm guessing he'll be in the 90's when all said and done.

I know another close member has a 2100 with a 250.(rayz)

(wildman) has done some testing of 2100's with 300's and he's reached speeds in the low 90's.

Do some searching around the site you'll find a lot of Pulsare info.:thumb:

Thanks for the info guys...

Although my motor isn't a 300 I am hoping it will produce at least close to what those guys are getting. I don't plan on running the rpm quite as high as the limiter (longevity), but I will try some different props and see what gets me the speed.

I am also a water skiing addict, so I must keep that in mind.

I have done some prop research on Merc's website, and I plan on contacting a local dealer.

I'll keep you informed, and thanks again!:thumb:
