OK everyone, you may not like this, but it was definitely worth it. Sanding on this boat, it just wasn't looking quite right. So with the grace of some strangely nice winter weather, I pitched my expensive paint gun and went with my 2 Amazon and Harbor Freight specials, and started over.

Seriously, I just was not happy with how the boat was going, and I am positive SCT would not have been happy. But now, I am, and I think he will be too. Enjoy this update.

After sanding it back down. I painted it with black gel coat.

OK, I am going to unwrap this boat tomorrow morning and get started on the deck. With some decent weather, I might have the deck shot by next weekend.

Been wet sanding a lot, so not much to see. But now that Spring may have finally maybe sprung, time to get back to that deck.

No. It's a long way from me finishing it up.

Finally, making a little progress on the 1350 Mercs for the race boat.
I bought a complete virgin short shaft 1971 1350 Mercury from a buddy in IL last spring. All it really needed for now was a good tune up and cleaning. I over hauled the carbs and fuel pumps, new water pump, gear oil, and replaced a bunch of 'crusty' old Mercury wiring. I'll probably tear it down next year for a complete over haul. (Jim, did you notice the safety straps?)

Then unable to find another complete short shaft 1350, i pieced one together from a few donor motors. Unfortunately, the powerhead had a bad crank.....so it got a complete tear down......seals, gaskets, bearings, rings, crank, etc. Luckily, one of the best I6 mechanics on the east coast lives near me. Got the block back and started to make her pretty.

Then started to dress her out for the prom. My painter should have my mid back this week and hopefully we'll fire both engines. I've learned a LOT about these old inline 6s!

That motor looks great! Are those the original wires on the distributor? I have a 1350 short shaft on my MX-14 that has some bad distributor wires.
