1987 Checkmate 2800 GTS with twin 200hp Merc outboards.

J.O. Burke,

Sweet, that is the nicest, origional 28' Cmate, around!! I wish I would have seen your boat before I ordered my new boat. That is one clean boat! The only upgrade, I would've done is to replace the 200s w/ new Merc 250xs.

You should have no problem selling that boat.
Good luck,
SCT

Hello Again Al,

Any thoughts?

I spent another $2,000.00 on her this year in PM. A new cock pit cover, water pump kits, Optima batteries, Electric fuel pump, complete detail inside and out. Used her once and here she sits, waiting and hoping to get used.

Let me know.

I cant believe this boat isnt gone yet.You need some good Michigan exposure and I think it would sell. The season is getting short, not much boating time left.Come to think of it we havent had to much warm weather at all.

I hear you on the weather - what summer.

I took her out for the second time this year - down to the Chicago air show - what a blast - every time I do take her out I get goose bumps and wonder if I really do want to sell. I get compliments all the time on her - maybe she'll be mine for another year.

Thanks for the thoughts.

hey fnshrmaster, when I was out at the speed runs with boatn'70 and bdusted 440 a guy wanted to buy my starflite on the spot...I got his number, you could sell him yours and get the twin 200's...let me know Tom

Thanks Tom.Much appreciated! Not sure if I want to sell it and go bigger or just repower this boat.I have only had it since march and I am driving the wife nuts with all this boating hooha. But as I always say,She will get over it!If she doesnt, tough sh!t.

I know where you are at...i caved into my ex-wife and traded a switzer with a jacked up merc that went 73 mps for a pontoon...now I have a fiance who bought a hummer so we could tow the checkmate...sometimes things do get better. that two engine checkmate is pretty cool...i'd consider it myself but my warehouse docks are to narrow and my garage is only 30' deep...good luck either way. Tom

Nope - and I'm kinda glad. I actually got to use it 3 times this summer and what a blast. Now the family is into it. Spent another $500.00 getting the trailer dialed in and bought all new covers, full mooring and cockpit - $1,250.00 worth (the good stuff). Along with the detail and tune up I'm loving it and wouldn't let her go unless the offer was very reasonable. She's put away indoors this year - I'll try to post some more picts next year - some shots of her running on the water (and in the air). CHECKMATES RULE.

GREAT TO HEAR YOU ARE HANGING ONTO SUCH A NICE BOAT. IF I OWNED ONE BOAT FOR THAT MANY YEARS I WOULD BE HARD PRESSED TO LET HER GO. (NOT TO MENTION THE COST OF REPLACEMENT). I WOULD JUST HOP THE MOTORS UP A LITTLE MORE FOR MORE SPEED AND ENJOY WHAT YOU HAVE.

Hey J.O., Glad to hear you're keeping your 2800.
Just don't see many around and I get comments on mine wherever I go.

Did the shift/throttle box come from the factory or did you add it? I've been looking for something similar. Got any rigging/wiring shots behind the back seat? I'm looking for some shots showing how the factory routed the wiring. Mine has had several motor swaps and wiring mods.

Thanks

Thanks for the feed-back.

Checkmate put the control box in at the factory when I ordered the boat. The Kiekhaefer controls were on option I struck and they resulted in the custom control box. As always - the factory did an excellent job.

I don't have any rear hatch pictures - I'll try to take some and post them after the boat comes out of storage in the spring.

J.O.,
very, very nice indeed sir!
what year are the motor's?? 2.4's I assume??
I love all the teak in the cabin.
If you still have it once I get on my feet financially I may road trip up to see it.
Gary
