1989 Checkmate Cobra Sprint

Here is a boat I wish Checkmate would have made more of.

Look carefully at the top photo. Thats Kip driveing and if you look to the rear you can just make out the open header that sticks through the hatch. It is only a 4cyl under there, thats why only one header. From what I could tell about the motor, I had the same one in my 4cyl Ford Ranger. But this one sounded COOL. Kip could probably tell you more about them. It was some racing deal that never got off the ground. I only remember working on 4 of them, and don't know if they ever made any more of them. I remember that the boat that Kip is driveing was very light weight and built for racing. The one below had the production layup, and thats Mike driveing it.
I remember these because they were something different that I got to work on. Not only did I get to lay out the stripes to be painted but I worked on the molds as well. There are 2 differnt colors of gel in that stripe, but thats hard to see in the pictures. I remember working on these 2 and 2 more that were black with red and white stripes.

What I am hoping for is for someone on the board getting one. If they see one they should grab it as its a very RARE boat.

I think back in the 80's OMC was trying to get an APBA class together to run their 2.3 Cobra setup. Checkmate and some other boat companies built some prototypes but I don't know if it ever got started. Anybody else remember that?

I believe that is what the boat was for. It would be neat to know what happened with that.

Coop, I want that boat. Can you go get it for me? The only thing that scares me is his Ebay name. You click on it, and another name comes up.

I don't think the old Blazer will make another trip just yet. But I could see what I could come up with.

All I see is a number for his name, its the same number when I click on it, but I thought it was a name earlier. Maybe its a new security idea some wizz kid came up with at the baY.

I see this boat and think that its got your name written all over it.

whats it worth?

coolboat! he has a reserve on it so who knows what he will take! with 1 feedback i would go with cash in hand before taking it! its been on ebay a few times. ive definitly seen it before. the king coba sticker looks to familiar! im only 1.5 hours away! lets see what happens. no were to park it is the question! great post!

There's a LOT of aftermarket hop up parts for the 2.3 for the automotive world..........................

Cool boat how many do you think they made in the race version and how hard would it be to find one and if you did find one what do you think the value would be would it be something to keep a hold of.
