2011 244ZT prop selection

Gimme fuel and I did a prop swap and I tried a 25 rev 4 he had sent me. I only did a quick run today, but I hit 78.7 mph on GPS at about 5100. The boat handles a lot different with the prop. I could damn near hit 70mph without even trimming up. It seemed to want to bounce a lot. I'm gonna run it on Saturday with a boat full and see what I think.

This was a pretty good read thru, Wonder how long I'm going to be happy with 72-73 mph. I think I'll go as far as getting prop lab next spring. I'm very happy with the performance of my 2000 zt 454 MPI. Especially the mileage. Its a 1/3 more efficient then that old dinosaur of an outboard I had. 2nd time out with all 8 plugs firing, I ran about 30 miles north and back and burned 29 gallons. At 2.75 a gal it came to $78.00, lets say if I'd run at least 29 gal (proberly more) thru the outboard at high test 3.00= $87.00 + 1 gal of oil at $32.00 = $119.00, Can"t beat it!

Ok Brain, you'll beat up on me come the end of June! You'll get the better available docking spots, Jeff

Jeff, I bet your new boat is way better in comfort and ride quality then the old one. It really sucks, but I highly doubt I'll be making it to the rally this year. I started a new job in dec. and can't pick vacation until July. Hopefully next year we can do some running. Congrats again on the new boat.

Yes, Its a dream. 50 mph at 3500 rpm. The bottom is just so forgiving haven't had a sour hit yet. Ran 55-60 the whole run back south thru Lake St Clair and the Detroit River (Just Perfect Its Everything I Hoped For)
To Bad about the bay maybe next year, Actually at work today, I'm going try to finagle a couple more vacation days and try to hit Cumberland too!Best of luck, Jeff

Are there any ECU flash upgrades or engine mods you guys are aware of for the 454 MAG MPI?
Any comments on the ProCharger upgrade? Seems to be the fastest way to feed my need for speed.

Ecu flashes are available for the older mag motors but they only gain you ~20 hp or so and that little bit, you won't notice. A procharger you will notice however. They work extremely well when set up by somebody who knows them. It is not really a do it yourself kit however because the procharger supplied fuel system notoriously sucks. There are many different considerations depending on what year your motor is as well, weather it is VST or cool fuel system, or a mefi1 or mefi3 pcm.

Motor is a 2000. Where do I look to find the ECU PART ID?

GimmieFuel you are the inspiration for me wanting to increase the HP. I did find the local ProCharger dealer and they install, they are 10 miles from my home. That makes the decision easy, just waiting for a price.

Don't mean to steal your blog so I will stop.

That's just incredible hp out of an ECU flash.
I had to read back and thought you added a whipple charger.
I feel like I have an old dinosaur now and couldn't get 5 hp after upgrading all my electronics on my carbed motor for that kind of money.
good for you.
:bigthumb:

Hmm, wonder if they could do that on my motorcycle...

I like to keep updating this thread with each new prop I try. So the latest is a 5 blade Mercury Maximus 28 pitch with some work done to it. Problem child was nice enough to let me try it before I bought it off him. I spun it to just under 5000rpm at 78mph. I liked the fact that it could hold plane until about 16mph. Even tho I have a speed boat I like to play around with wake boarding a little. I think if I run it light on fuel I could maybe touch 80mph with this prob. I touched 80.3 with a labbed 28 bravo, but it had some chips and imperfections. I'm thinking about sending the 28 bravo out to get worked over by bblades. It was my fastest prop, but was a little sluggish when I had the boat loaded with fuel and 5 people.

Thanks guys, maybe my best bet would be to get my prop labbed.

MY prop had a bent blade and a couple of big nicks in it. I had a guy that specifically does labbed props, he pitched it to like 24 and took the gouges out of it. When I did my sea trial last weekend, I could really notice the difference from last year.

Them are some good speeds at under 5000 I will try mine soon and hope to see less slip. Nice to run them speeds without turning the motor to its limit.

I agree Jeff it was nice hitting 78mph and staying under 5000 rpm. Makes me feel like I'm not abusing my motor as much...

I am quite useless when it comes to props, but can you tell me if just by changing the prop you get more speed. I know that if you change the pitch a certain way you will get top end speed and lose Hole-shot.
But my prop guy said I would get higher top end after he labbed the prop but Im still only running in the low 60's??? Same as last year.

All props run differently. Higher the pitch the more top speed, that's if your boat has the power to turn a higher pitch prop. Lab finishing a prop will get you 2 or 3 mph at best.

Well I ended up testing another prop. 27 pitch mirage plus. 77mph at 5200rpm. Almost lot it trying to achieve that top end speed. My boat hates 3 blades. It handled pretty horrible and blew out of I hammered it while getting on plane. I'm guessing my boat don't like 3 blade props because of my raised bravo 1 X outdrive.

I had my fastest speed with the 3 blade mirage plus but it wasn't worth the bad handling and blowing out everytime trying to get on plane

On my 253 a 27p mirage would just blow out as soon as I thought about touching the throttle. Now on my friend's 259, a 25p mirage ran awesome and was the fastest until he got his bravo I labbed by Bblades.
