2014 Dodge 1500 Eco Diesel

Well, the Eco-Diesels are out now. :thumb:

Anyone looked at one, or perhaps even purchased?

There's a few at my local dealer. :)

-Chris

I had the pleasure of driving the new eco-diesel today. I must say I am impressed! During the test drive, I reset the fuel economy and drove the same route that I drive every day with my Hemi plus a few added wot blast and the average fuel economy was 10mpg's better than my Hemi. Also, had to do an acceleration test. The one constant factor is the test was done in the same location as every car or truck that I have test driven over the past 14 years. WOW! What a surprise. This truck is a quad cab and pretty well loaded down and was only 10mph slower than my reg cab short bed Hemi and actually felt as strong or stronger for the first 100ft or so. I might add that my reg cab short bed 4.7 had 315hp and ran the same mph from a to b as the eco-diesel. Out on the open road, I was averaging 29 to 30 mpg's. I WANT ONE!

I test drove one with my father in law. He bought one...I haven't pulled the trigger, but this is the truck. Like boatman said...it's legit. 27mpg on the interstate into a stiff headwind. Dodge has a winner. I'd also consider the Grand Cherokee...same engine available.

Thanks for all the info fellas. Nice to here some good info on this new rig. I dont think I have seen one on the road yet but might have to go take a look for myself. It sure sounds like a winner.

I'd wait a year. Let someone else be the guinea pig as they work the bugs out. ;) Sounds like a winner to me and I'm sure it won't be long until someone has a reflash that'll have it door to door with the Hemi and probably improve fuel mileage even more.

There are a few around up here, but not many.

It seems like most dealers have one or two only and because of the short supply of them they won't discount them much.

Once there are more around and the prices come down I'll most likely have a look at one.

Right now you can get around 14-17 off the sticker up here on the Larime Hemi models, but the Diesels they are only offering whatever the factory is offering. That means the differential is around 10K difference or so.

At that much of a difference, it simply doesn't make sense to to me.

A lot of tunes out there...

They're going to be pricey...FIL bought the Laramie Longhorn...$51K t,t & t out the door.

There was a tune thread on one of the Cherokee forums...there are tunes available out there. I don't think they're program tunes...I think their a plug in "ECU". The tune offers the standard "more": hp and tq. From what I read there is definitely room for growth regarding the diesel power plant and it was suggested that it was intentionally detuned to offer hp and tq gains through the coming model years without having to redesign the power plant. Pure speculation, but sounds like a smart thing to do in terms of playing the hp war when the other manufacturers enter the half ton diesel field.

Anyone else get one?

I was looking at them a few weeks back when I was getting my oil changed at the Mopar dealer.

I talked with one of the sales guys, but there is still too much of a gap between the cost of the Hemi and the Eco-diesel - at least for me.

I would say the difference is still around 10K or so.

Pulled the trigger...I'm getting a new work vehicle. I talked them into a 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel...Loaded up Laramie. Everything except the Ram Box and Sunroof. Delivery in 14 weeks though...through Enterprise Fleet Management. Pretty legit deal. Can't wait.
Sam, did you end up getting your truck?

I'd be interested to know what you think about it. :)

Yes. I ordered it through our companies Enterprise Fleet Management program on 13 June. It's scheduled build date is 03 Oct...which kinda upsets me for a couple reasons. 1) it shouldn't take that long 2) they start building 2015's on October 5th. So...4 days after my truck is built it will be 1 model year old. :irked: Bummer. AND THEN...I need ot allow 3-4 weeks delivery. I can't wait for truck, but my Enterprise Fleet Management experience has been a total bust. My FIL has had his Longhorn since June...loves it. He's average 29+ mpg overall and has seen as high as 35 on the interstate in a strong tail wind. He drives like an old lady though.

My 2014 1500 HEMI is getting 14-15 MPG. So is my Wife's 2014 HEMI Durango.

We both drive like bank robbers and not much on the highway.

Better than the 10-11 MPG I got in my 2004 (no 4cyl. Drop).

Factor in 3 boats and I wonder why I dont have stock in Exxon-Mobil. Gas stations love us!

Thanks for the update. :)

When I checked online on the build dates, it said the 2015's were scheduled to start October 6, 2014. It's kinda weird they would start your build three 3 days before. Maybe yours will be a 2015?

Here's the site I saw the dates on. :)

Talked my Dad into buying one now too. His 95 3/4Ton GMC Suburban has gotten too temperamental for his liking. He just doesn't drive it enough...So he's going to sell that and 2 other beater Subarus he drives and stick with one vehicle. He bought a white 5'7 box crew cab Big Horn. 20/40/20 bench with some nice upgrades. So far, he's very impressed. He can't believe that's a 3.0 Diesel. It pulls a lot stonger than than his 6.5. But...it's a state of the art engine.

Mine was built and is in transit. Will post pics in a new thread when it shows up.

What are the prices like your way?

Up here, you can get a loaded Lariame Crew Cab for 43-44K, but if you try to get the exact same diesel model you're looking at 54-57K as the dealers won't really discount them.

At a difference of 10K, to me it just doesn't make sense.

When and if the differential gets smaller, at that point I might consider trading for one.

-Chris

Dad's only two criteria besides a crew cab, 4wd and diesel were power windows and an adjustable drivers seat...I think we could handle that. He doesn't like a lot of bells and whistles either, but...that's okay. MN sales tax is 6.5%, Title and Tags are $660

After some poking around and knowing how he likes to use his truck and how far he'll sometimes drive it, We settled on the Ram Big Horn Crew Cab SLT.

Truck #1) Silver, 192 miles (a lot of test drives)...been on the lot a while. Total Price as Equipped: $48,790 (including destination charge). Sale Price: $39,590. Price out the door including T,T & T: $42,823.

Truck #2) Blue Steel. 0 Miles, identical truck except 3.92. Total Price as Equipped: $48,035. Sale Price: $42,739. Out the Door T,T & T: $46,177

Truck #3) These were the local guys and last guys I called. Bright White. In transit. Identical truck as #1 but with upgraded stereo. Total Price as Equipped: $48,130 Sale Price: $39,780. Price out the door including T,T&T: $43,025.

I told him to go with truck number 3. That way he would have the relationship equity of the sale with the dealership that will do any maintenance, it's brand new off the line so all the QC bugs should have been worked out and we don't have to drive 600 miles round trip to go get it.

I like dealing with the internet department(s) and being the end of the month, they were motivated. Maybe there are better deals out there, but I think I did okay for him.

He bought truck #3. He opted for the extended warranty (7/70,000), running boards, spray in liner, tonneau cover. Out the door after the add ons: $48,XXX. It's a Bright White Monotone, Bighorn, 5'7" Crew Cab, gray cloth interior, 40/20/40 bench, heated seats & Wheel, upgraded heater.

I'm not sure what the cost of the warranty was since I don't know what deductible he selected. I think it was the $0 based on the cost of the add ons. Anyway, he bought a truck that was in transit and hadn't arrived yet. He did all the paper work last Friday. His truck is now sitting in the dealership all done and ready for him to pick up and he;s out duck hunting...I've been dying for mine and his is here ready to go...all shiny and new smelling...I want to steal it.

My current Ram is the first pickup I've had with the spray in bedliner.

That stuff is surprisingly bullet-proof. :thumb:
