251 prop help

I have some more pics of a billet swim platform I got for it for 1375 with a ladder ,hard wear and all. This place in the midwest just started making them and im the first one to mount it up on a checkmate. It was a good deal they even powder coated it yellow for free part of the price.

I've got a really nice 14 3/4 27" spinelli 4 blade sitting on the shelf that I believe was originally set up for a 25' check. it has too much blade area for anything I have now, but you might be able to turn it to good effect. Also wound up with a couple of extra mach 4 sterndrivers the other day a 27 and a 28. neither has had much use at all (stickers are still on one of them) and they came together with some other things I wanted as well. I'm currently running a mach prop I bought a while back. it's a 28 that was labbed, cut down a little had the diffuser ring cut off and had more cup added to blades. it's one of my fastest props right now. Can take a few pics if you might be interested. was moving things around the other day and thinking what in the world am i doing with all these props still...(I have another half a dozen or so that I wouldn't part with even if asked). note that I am not one to buy sell and trade stuff around, but my only boat right now is a little one and I don't need some of the ones i wound up with. if you are interested, drop a note. the spinelli looks a good bit like a bravo with a little more blade area and more rake. good luck with whatever you wind up doing. playing with props is always fun...

bowl and port work make a smooth transistion during cylinder fire. More efficient flow moving the high compression !!! also smooth cut block valve reliefs move air. This motor has lots of time spent on it hand building not some stroker kit thrown and a old 454 merc.

I understand fully on how the flow, port, bowl, and valve seat work gives efficiency of the air, fuel, and exhaust flow. But 11.8 compression is still 11.8 compression and 93 octane is still 93 octane. If your heads could flow golf balls that still is not going to change the compression and octane.

red you are killing me here......... :offtopic:I said the motor is being broke in on 93, that its able to run on it.Not perform the best on it. And its built to run on E85 everything down to the stainless braided lines are set up and rated for E85. But if someone wanted info on setting there boat up to run on e85 and gain 20-40hp to boot then I would have posted a thread in a diff section.................................

Again back to the props yes tim im very interested. Not looking for freebie so let me know what you have and need. Like I said before it washed out a 25p mirage so im clueless on what that pig is gonna need for a prop.

I sounds like with your setup you may be stuck playing the prop game even though you were trying to avoid it.
Sounds like, and looks like you have built a nice ride.

Thanks man I have so much work into this boat. I know I will never restore a boat solo again. Its been a long year but worth it when you tell someone that the boat is an 86 :thumb:

I am interested in what options are available with a billet swim platform
for my '89 251. Please share the contact info. Thanks in advance.

The company is sickinnovations.com they make motorcycle stunt stuff but the owner Ian is starting to make boat stuff. I delt with him on the phone and he his a great guy. And you cant beat the price. 1375 shipped with the ladder and stainless cup holders. mounted in 2 hours on my 251 and I love it. Im loading pics to the same link on page one of the thread.

well I have run my 251 with quite a bit of power(blower motor) and in your pics looks like you are not running ext hyd steering, better be carefull..above 70 intersting things start happening...I can tell you first hand....these boat will run into triple digets...but when set up right, you also need to keep you rpm range down to 6k and below or you are going to be spending a lot of time at a drive shop, cause drives do not like lots of RPM, I would try a 24 bravo 1 and work on a top end RPM max of 56-58...good luck Rob

Yeah Im gonna be adding the steering this winter along with better tabs. I have no plans to test top speed until then. I just wanna get on plane and cruise the summer out, break in the motor and mess with the E85. My goal with this boat is 85. I want to to try to have it set so at 5700-5800 is around 75 and if I wanted to mess around and race someone I could pull it to 6300. lots of fun testing to pull that off but im gonna give it a shot. Nice 251 by the way!!! I love the style of them

Thank you. You should hear the thing with the dry gil exhaust and the cam. You feel each cyl fire like someone is kicking you in the chest.

Ok well I ran a 25p hydromotive 4 blade and hit 60 at 4500 ,3/4 down on the hammer. And thats all I got sunday with 4-5ft wake did not really feel to good about going much more than that. Plus the girlfriend and the dog did not like it :eyecrazy:.
Now I had the trim all the way down. Soon as I started to trim up a lil the boat would bounce up and down like crazy but pull speed and rpm like crazy doing it ????? Thats why I kinda slowed down when I hit 60. I mean the boat was trying to jump out of the water. There has to be a fix for that???? anyone????

ST ??????????? Im asking because I dont know about the checkmate bounce. Is it from the 4 blade prop pulling the bow down and the hull wants to lift ???

Most of the time on a mate you get the bounce at mid speeds with a dab of trim. It comes from the hull trying to get on the pad and then falling back off. Bravo props tend not to do it as bad as other props. I think most people around here call it porpoising

So prop is most of that then. Im just gonna have to bite the bullet and buy a bravo and hope for the best. There is a guy on here who has a 28p spinelli 4 blade for 300 used. But im not sure if thats gonna work or even get me to 5800rpm or so. I hate to buy somthing that might work!!!!
