" For Sale" 92 Starliner White/Red/Black 200hp Yamaha

I went and looked at it today. It was originally sold 10 minutes from where I grew up at a place called Simonson Marine. They went out of business a while ago. The boat is nothing short of amazing. The guy who's selling it is a wheeler and dealer that somehow stumbled onto it at some sort of sale. He tried to make it sound like it was on Craigslist, but there's no way it was missed by the entire board. Not a stress crack anywhere. THere's a little spot of dock rash on the front right hull, but has been somewhat fixed. Looked to be original gray carpet. Vinyl is bright and clean. Spalshwell is really clean. MOtor looks almost brand new. Like I said...amazing. I offered him $5000. He laughed and said no. So...I left. I don't care how amazing it is....$12,500 for a 20 year old boat motor combo is too much. For a 20 year old trailer it also looked damn near new. Amazing.
You drove all the way to Winnipeg to kick the tires and low ball him? You should have contacted me and I would have gone with you and offered him.. $6000.

I paid $12,500 for my boat, too much for you guys but that's what it's worth here IMO, you can't buy anything for under 10k here, junk sells for that much, this thing looks really clean, Father in law just sold his 88' 17 ft Invader with a 87' 115 TOP for 9k two months ago, which boat would you rather have?

Just saying... that's why I don't post anything I sell on here, it's not the same market.

Plus you're gonna have WAAAYYYY more than $12.5K into your 23 yr old boat... if he'd come down to $10K it would prob be a deal. Heck, you're into a trailer and interior for $5K alone for your project!

So I was up near Guelph, canada and stupidly bought a 12 pack of sleman beer. I paid the $24 for it Because the brewery looked neat and was near my customer. I thought it was probably worth it. After the first sip I realized that I bought the wrong product in the wrong country. Good beer but not 2$ per botttle good. Beer is expensive in canada.

Same thing here. That is a nice boat and IMO would run near 68 dead empty on the right day. BUT the guy is asking double the price i sold mine for. Just too far into pulsare price territory. Great boat but Not a $12k boat. Boats are expensive in Canada.

No, I was up here for work anyway. I make it to Winnipeg about 2 or 3 times per month for work. I agree on all the comments. Everything is more expensive north of the border. The guy I talked to was the owners kid. He was about 20 or 22. It's a beaut of a boat, but when a clean 06 2100BR with a 250XS is sitting in Minneapolis for 23000ish...$12,900 is way too close to Pulsare territory. I love the starliner. Would love to have this boat. But no way at that price...no way.

What business brings you to Winnipeg? And what do you think this Starliner is worth your side of the border? He will get his $12000+ for it here when he finds the right buyer. People here like 17' Bayliners with 3.0L I/O's. It's ridiculous.

Well, I went back and talked to the Old Guy instead of the Young Kid tonight, before I drove home. This time I was able to get in the boat and crawl around without worrying about my clothes. I could only find two stress cracks on the whole boat. It has 3 chips around the hull. The dock rash was worse than I thought and after I was able to really get down and look at it, the patch job is poor. The bilge was very clean. The ski locker was full of water. :shakehead: It has a cover...how about using it? The interior is immaculate, but also did find one huge disappointment: The floor in the bow was full of soft spots..two fo them were over a square foot and my foot sunk about an inch...But the good news was it had a ZZ Top CASSETTE still in the stereo! CASSETTE!!

As to what I would pay for that boat in the states...$7500. Trailer was great, motor looked great but still a 20 yr old carb motor, hull was still pretty dang nice for a 20 yr old boat, interior looked great, but the floor was bad. Transom was solid. I think $7500 is a fair price in the states.

So, I told him I couldn't pay what he was asking. He said, "Honestly, lets just forget it...I'm going to get $12,000 from someone for that boat and if I don't...I'll keep it." I told him fair enough, and asked him if I could leave my card in case he got to the point where he would want to unload it and he said, no thanks, he was confident it would sell.

I can't believe I missed this boat when it was still in MN. They never told me where they got it. It was exactly what I was looking for.

Mark, I work for Wells Concrete. www.wellsconcrete.com I'm the VP of Business Development and in charge of establishing Wells Concrete Canada. We just recently built the Park next to the Lobby on York located at the intersection of Donald and York. Also, we're supplying wall panels for the Sterling Lyons Business Park next to IKEA. I'm working on the next ones, whatever they might be. It's been a big PITA, but also very rewarding and I've learned a lot about the importing and exporting business as we manufacture our panels in Grand Forks, ND and then export them to our Canadian customers or through our Canadian Corp depending on what the customer prefers.

^ crazy! $12K w/soggy floor...

I've got a pretty nice 21BR for canadian sale - $30K! :D

At least the dude was straight up with ya.

Off topic: Can I sell my little Enticer for $8k north of the border? I love road trips. I just took the caddy on a nice 1,100 mile road trip :D, love that car.

My buddy just sold his Enticer with a really nice 115 Yamaha for $5000. He was about $1000 light on his price and I told him so but he was trying to get a quick sale. Sold in 5 minutes. Too quick.

Like I said above, it is pricey to get the boats into Canada, that's why the prices are higher. Also a few years ago our dollar was only worth 70 cents. The boats were really expensive then. I'm telling you, this dude is into that boat for 12k... that is why he needs to get 12k for it.

That boat wasn't on CL or I would have seen it too. These used car dealers have connections with brokers in the US. They bring in stuff I never see on CL. Another buddy of mine does it as well and he has an inside track with boat insurers. His stuff is always beat to crap but he makes whole boats out of the parts. They still look like crap to me but people buy them.

My rule of thumb is this; everybody in Minnesota owns a boat, everybody in Manitoba wants one. I have brought up over a dozen and always made money on them. The math is not working as well anymore so I haven't done it for a couple of years. And they always need some work too.

Reading this thread makes me want to list mine in Canada. If he's gonna get $12,000 for one with dock rash and a soft floor I can only imagine what I would get for mine.

Anybody from Canada looking for a nice enforcer?:thumb: I'll let it go for $25,000, oh the boat doesn't have soft spots in the floor.:thumb:

To that note...I listed my Pulsare on the Winnipeg Kijiji for $26,500. If that dude can say it's worth more in Canada..I can too!

$10,000 Canadian will buy you my very solid Starliner and I will deliver it to the Montreal or Ottawa area. :)

That will cost the buyer just about 30k fob Winnipeg. There was nice Pulsare with a 225 Merc EFI that sold for 20k this summer here. He was listed at 23k and he had to drop the price. But I don't remember the year. White and red.

There are ways to game that...for example, as the seller I can sell for price a and list price b as the sale price on the bill of sale. Price B would be a lot less then price A and thus save the buyer a lot of taxes at the border. Not entirely on the up and up form Revenue Canada perspective, but it can facilitate a transaction.

Bull. At the border they ask to see some sort of documentation of HOW you paid. If you show them the add for $26k and give them a bill of sale for $13k guess what happens. They are not retarded.

What is the deal when you take a boat from Canada into the US? Are there any taxes? Free trade eliminated duty but for Canadians there is no such thing as 'free' trade.

They are very sticky at Canada Customs. They will ask where you found the ad and go look it up online.
When I import a boat I bring the copy of the ad and the receipts from my bank as to how I paid. I never screw around with it. I just pay the taxes and avoid committing a federal offence.
