Anyone else notice this on the CM website?

Can't remember who, but someone on here had mentioned that Checkmate was going to do this. Sounds like a good idea.

make mine Checkmate..

They were toying with the refurbish idea and have now included this service into the business,
I will inquire and get an estimate on bringing the color back to life on my 251. I talked to Kip
about it the other day.

If the quote is competitve then I'd prefer to take my business there and
help support the manufacturer of my choice. Until I hit the lotto or land
a nice movie dog gig for the big bucks and buy the 100 mph Cigarette boat of my dreams,
I will continue to boat in a Checkmate:thumb:

Awsome!!!!!!!!

I think it's a great idea, take your old mate in for a face lift so to speak... like getting a remodeled vintage ride..
The company keeps moving forward, with new ideas all the time, keeping in touch with old customers, that need a little R&R on their boats, and new customers that found an old diamond in the ruff.

I personally don't think Checkmate will get much business restoring any Checkmates. I feel its a good idea but don't see much business restoring Checkmates. Most old mates getting restored are the smaller ones which what I have seen was being done by the owners on a budget. And in my eyes if a big boat like a Convincor needed total restoration only a fool would tackle that. Because it would be cheaper to buy a used one that did not need total restoration.

Most boats need total restoration because they were neglected by previous owners. Which in most cases is water damage and weather elements from being left outside uncovered.

I am just weighing the options out here. The cost of a total restoration verses the cost of another boat that was well kept.

I do like the idea you can still buy parts for your older mate threw Checkmate such as interior and decals an other stuff that is a big plus.

In todays economy, it's all about cash flow. Incorporating renovating older Checkmates is a smart move. It brings people back to the factory and fuels future sales while keeping the employees busy and the company making $$$!!:thumb:

My Enforcer was actually at the factory waiting for a refurb and DS decided at the time of his aquisition that CM would no longer refurb boats. The PO decided to sell and I was able to get a pretty sweet deal on it. Seems DS has had change of heart and is bringing the old practice back into the fold.

I think it is a good idea particularly if you want to maintain the value of the boat. Always better to have factory rebuilds........ but as BigRed said, will be much more expensive.

When those guys built me my new interior, I was doing a partial resto myself. Their work is as impeccable as with the new 'mates! I can see a market for resto myself 'cause some of us are so attached to our rides we just can't bring ourselves to let 'em go for something different(they're kind of a part of us after a while).

Formula is also offering this sevice now as well. I think a business that can go with the flow to stay afloat will weather the storm better than one which refuses to bend.

I dont understand explain more

You brought your boat to Checkmate and it was sitting their for a refurbish job. Then out of the blue DS decided not to refurb your boat.

What is a PO ??

Red you got too much Christmas Cheer in you, cause I know sober you'd get this. Get out from behind the Bar of that Carver.

I think Old Hickory is saying the Previous Owner (PO) had the boat at Checkmate for repairs and when DS put a stop to factory refurbishing decided to sell it rather then find somewhere else to get the work done. That's how the good deal came to be.

has anyone had any work done by c/m ? just wondering what kind of job they do and how competitive is the price.

Yah alcohol tends to make things come out unclear. My fridge stopped working so I had to drink all the beer before it got hot.

Most of the refirb stuff on my boat, I did myself. I did have the factory build me a complete new interior and it is flawless! It's all new construction from the original factory templates. I could not have built the bases and had them covered with new vinyl cheaper. I had to commission the orig. style horsehead graphics from a buddy, but thankfully that was no prob. Here's some pics w/ and w/o the heads on them. I'm a big fan of those guys, they we're terrific!:thumb:

Whoops; forgot the link:brickwall:!

That boat is SHARP :thumb:.

If you don't mind me asking, approximately how much did the interior cost from the factory? (That might be an option I want to consider).

A 25 Convincor is around 3 grand but everything is ready to bolt in. I think just for the covers is about 1800. I think the factory has fair market prices on their seat work. Sorry to say and no offence to anybody but all the seats I have seen recovered in a Checkmate that was not done by using the original covers don't look that good. They work but the seems are not straight or have wrinkles. But I am picky the way I want things to look.

Checkmate is the best way to go hands down for interior work for looks and the money. Yes their are people that can do extreme custom work but the price will be twice what Checkmate charges.

:thumb: alwaysredee the boat looks good
