Beckmate popularity

Personally I feel these molds had to go somewhere Checkmate was the best candidate to pick it up. Baja flooded the west coast as well
Look who went down with Baja (Fountain) and a host of others. If C/M can put the quality back into a Baja mold when the economy turns around and it will one day. I say the will be on top of the game.
The faithful baja owners that can't bring them selves to buy a checkmate may start another sales revolution to own a better quality boat.
Checkmate just has another quality line to offer.
Business is business I'm sure the dicession was made on a finacial basis with a long term goal in mind.

Mike it is all well and fine to buy molds and build them to appeal to another customer base. In fact it probally makes good sense. I would have created a new name and new image and kept C/M seperate and sacred. What makes no sense to me was to take the interiors from those boats and put them in what is a tradition. If Checkmate wanted to upgrade its interiors they certainly did not have to copy that interior of a boat that could not shine there shoes. -- A boat that gave performance boating a bad name -- The Bayliner of sport and performance boats --come on. They could have done something like Sunsation which in my opinion would have knocked the ball out of the park with the ZT and Convincor models . I saw with my own eyes todat a absolutely beautiful classic hull with the absolutely cheapest most horrible interior. So for me its move on.
To all the Pulsare still lives -- :bigthumb: FOR NOW ANYWAY!!;)

Darn straight......Sunsation has amazing interiors.....but a lot of the styling in a Sunsation comes from McLeod Design Group.

Personally I have not seen one yet.
There may be a developmental stage and changes made due to reception.
I am sure the company has in-site and is doing what they have to so they can stay alive.
The traditional interiors are still available.
Another well known builder out my way just went under and another well known one is on the bubble.
These companies built fine boats with fine interior and they just aren't selling.
There is no retail financing for boats right now and the flooring companies are taking them back by storm.
So it's easy to say put in high dollar interiors but who's going to pay for it in this economy
Sounds like they are trying to keep their overhead down and go long, If C/M makes it though these times and I think they will. Hats off to them they have been around a long time.
Checkmate lays up a fine hull and if a buyer has the money to up grade the interior they can have it. Others may be satisfied with the one it comes with.
I also think a negative post about a company does not do them any good this is on the world wide web and the boat building industry is in trouble. I think the company has great boats and everybody should buy one.
I say Support the company and website you are a part of and have faith it will turn around.

I was gonna' jump in and say just about what MK just did, though I think he said it better than I could have. I'll just add that in a way I can understand how a few people on here are so passionate about liking or disliking the new models, but what the company offers for sale has zero (or at least very little) effect on the boats that we currently own. It all comes down to the fact that if the boat buying public likes the new models they'll buy enough of them for Checkmate to justify keeping them around, and if the boat buying public doesn't like the new models enough to buy them in any appreciable numbers they'll get dropped from the lineup. And I really really doubt if the high quality is going to change one bit.

The irony in all of this is, that many of the Baja guys are crying and moaning the same way, as some are here. And why? Because Reggie Fountain is now building Bajas instead of Brunswick.

So I guess you can take from that, that Reggie builds an inferior boat to Brunswick and Doug - at least in the opinion of some.

I guess it's just a matter of sometimes, "perception becomes reality".

Personally, I miss the good old days, when y'all were running over to OSO to defend the reputation of Checkmate and telling everyone who would listen that it was the best brand ever. :bigthumb:

I realize this thread has turned somewhat hostile. That wasn't my intention. I'm beginning to feel sorry for starting this thread. The reason why alot of the members feel so strongly about the new designs is because they love the checkmates they have right now. We all know that no boat will last forever unless you don't use it. So we like to think, "Well, I'll just buy another one when the day comes." Thats why Check This wants the pulsare's to stay the way they are, thats why I want the convincor's to stay the way they are. So I was hoping that my next boat would be another checkmate that looks just like the one I have now but new. And some of us are just scared of change. Even though critism can be hard to listen to, the people at Checkmate should take the fact that we feel so strongly as a compliment to the quality of their product.

Our relationship with checkmate is like a relationship with a good woman, Just because we might get mad at something they did, that doesn't mean we want to trade them in for a different body type with better lines. :D

And just like mopeds, I'm sure the beckmates are still fun to ride. Hell, if thats all that checkmate makes in ten years I'll probably own one.

well my thought are this, a lot of the older checkmate graphics were about the worst I've ever seen, sorry, only a few were acceptable to me, so the newer designs, even though baja related are a big plus in my opinion. second in my area they sold a ton of baja's for many years...I've always said they were the bayliner of performance boats, and that is also what killed them, their customer base has been hit the hardest by the economy...thats what pretty much did them in...and last who the hell can afford a new boat these days ?? can't afford to keep the one I have ?? and I know there are many in the same boat...no pun intended....Rob

I agree on ~ graphics~ but..... doing a cover up on graphics is easy
1. paint new over the old or / vinyl graphic over lays are fast:thumb:
