Checkmate 50th Anniversary Edition

Well-known member
I saw this on the checkmate website yesterday:

"Rain, Rain Go Away!
May 2011

I'm guessing (and hoping) that when the weather finally changes, we will see Spring come alive and then Summer right behind that…and great boating weather finally!

The last four years at the helm of Checkmate Marine have flown by at warp speed. We are here to keep the Checkmate boating experience what it always has been – a great product made by a great team of dedicated individuals!

Next year the company will be celebrating a milestone – our 50th Anniversary! And we are currently working on several exciting special products for our loyal customers.

I may be asking for more than we can handle, but if the Checkmate nation has any ideas (big or small), send us a quick note via our Facebook page, or call us at 419-562-3881 and we will look at any & everything that makes economic sense. Number 1 on our list is a very special Pulsare 2100BR special.

Happy Boating – stay safe and have fun!

Doug"

So, i thought maybe we could put a list together of ideas that would make a 50th Anniversary 2100 something very special. i started thinking about it, and thought that somthing from every decade be represented, here's what i came up with so far:

1960 - the original checkmate logo
1970 - full metalflake
1980 - the colour scheme of black/red/white that seemed to be very popular then
1990 - that would be the 2100 hull itself
2000's - obviously that would be the motor, a 300 is the obivous choice.

each boat should come with a certificate of authenticity, and be numbered (1 of 10, 2 of 20 - how ever many they build)

as well, i think the boat should have:
deluxe gauges and controls (no merc stuff)
led lighting ala wildman
flush mounted cleats and lights
top end stereo
full fiberglass liner
50th anniversary stiched into the upholstry - maybe the back cushion
maybe even gel "50" into a slick looking graphic on the hull
colour matched trailer with aluminum wheels, led lights, etc.

those are my ideas, what are yours?

Thats pretty cool... I was just reading thru DS blog on the CM website the other day and wondering if anyone else read thru it lately.

On the 50th anniversary:

I'm really diggin the full metal flake, as well as the rest of the ideas!!

I'd like to see a LD version offered up in addition to the BR.

As much as I like the Pulsare idea...I think bringing the Starflite mold back would be more representative as a limited edition boat! Build a Starflite using an inner lined floor, Livorsi gages, reinforced transom with a 10" hyd. jackplate, full hyd. steering and a 300XS....glassed with full metalflake gelcoat and some nostalgic Checkmate script!!:thumb:

that's an awesome idea!

Bring on the color/metal flake

Some great Ideas so far, I think the older hulls more often had less white/ more color on them along with the metal flake. It's a more classic look, that I prefer over the new mostly white boats. The other thing that I think would be attractive is an I/O version of the Pulsare. I think it's been talked about, but so far never done. I wonder if Doug/Checkmate is going to be able go that direction with a few hulls. A Pulsare with a BB rumble would be wicked.

Diggin the metalflake idea. No one take this the wrong way but todays boats are not as asthetically exciting as the ones of 30 years ago. Lots of corny graphics and white interiors.

It would make a great limited edition model.
Too bad the molds went out of the country, according to Mike!

How about a 50th Anniversary Pulsare LD with removable race fairing similar to a Tuff 21? Take some weight out creatively and make it the first Pulsare to break 100. Course Randy would have to be Senior Project Consultant. Even put his name on the boat.

How cool would that be "50th Anniversary 100MPH Pulsare".

Anything performance related should be faster as an Anniversary Edition.

Problem is all this is probably not economically feasible.

I like this idea A LOT!!! I ouwld be in the market for a new boat if that happened!!!

That's exactly my thoughts too! A 21' Pulsare I/O!! That's would be a great looking boat!!! Not to be hating on the O/B guy's, but when something is coming down the lake with a nice loud thru-hull rumble people stand up and take notice, and i love the cleaner lines of an I/O!

But on another hand, look at what Detroit is doing lately, bringing out new retro versions of classic iconic cars, like the Challenger and camero. It would cool to see a couple classic 'Mates brought back with a new, but retro/modern look, like a modern version of the Enchanter!! I'm kinda supprised none of the boat company's have thought of that idea yet, i mean there are many iconic boats out there, bring back modern versions of them! Just a thought...

I agree with checkmatefever, not on the i/o (OB-4-life). I agree on the retro style with a modern twist. The Starflte is an iconic boat and there are die hard checkmate lovers that would sell their current boat and by the special addition. How many people outside our forum would buy it? Did Ford bring back an exact 1950's Thunderbird, or the 1967 Mustang Fast Back. No they took the spirt of the original and mated it with current technology. Chevy did the exact same thing with the Camero. How about a Starflite with special 50 year graffics, throw back colors, a modern stepped hull, full fiberglass liner, snap in carpet, best of everything on the inside (Livorsi gauges, polish aluminum accents, pop up cleats, stainless every thing, rated for 300hp plus, and a 100mph top speed.

That's a boat we can get behind.

Go Metal Flake... Not the whole boat though.. Start with flake and slowly go to todays theme.. Maybe flake strips Motor ??? I like I/O s with a turbo or twins outboards.. :bounce:

A FULL metalflake 21BR with a clean looking fiberglass/balsa latchable bow cover for the days you wanna be super cool in a LD would get me to buy a new boat.

perhaps try to learn from others, case in point, Donzi made re-make of a popular older model and called it the Donzi Classic. I don't know much about it, how well it was received or how exact they were in the re-production but perhaps someone else on here does know.
Was it profitable?
Was it popular?
What would they have done different?

I think that while our wishlists would be for a full out revival, it would be impractical to pull an older design out of mothballs. The Pulsare has good looks that remind me of the Starflite/Liner but would only require a different gel coat to be sprayed and some different interior schemes to give it that retro look.

I think your chances of buying a new Ford Pinto would be better than Checkmate useing any 18-20 foot mold from the past. Unless they make a new old mold.

I think the flake would be awesome, Checkmate did a very cool fade in and out with the color years back,

That and a 2400 I/O. :thumb:
Yes, love the flake!! Nothing like the flake to add to the power of the sunburn :D

i love the idea of a starflite rebirth, but doubt that could happen especially if the molds aren't in ohio anymore.

red's got the faded metalflake idea - that's perfect! maybe in a red or a blue.

i like the idea of the hard cover for the bow, that would be slick, and if it could be 100mph out of the factory that would be even better!
