CHECKMATE OWNER'S RALLY 2010

sounds good they do good work
i might be out there doing some testing myself on saturday
let me know how it works out and what prop are you going to be running, if you want you can give mine a try
I want to try your B Blades 28 sometime.

Looks like Jamisyn and I will be coming down, we had a great time at the "original" rally! I'm in the midst of testing props now after learning I had too much slip in the prop I was running...20+%. Nick, too bad Echo can't make it...maybe next time!

Hey Troy, glad you can make it.It looks like we are going to have a good crowd.

Well.....not so fast! Went to the lake today with the boys to do some more testing on a prop that I was loaned....and...the drive let go at WOT @ 77 gps. Sounds like at this point to have blown the floor out of the thinner gears they put in these 99 Bravo 1's. Looking to get going on rebuilding this thing up to an XR, but have my research and budget cut out for me! OUCH!!! :yell: I will keep you all posted. Any thoughts or ideas welcomed.

The prop was working alot better than the old one, slip percentage wise! I was around 24% with the old one and this one had 4800 RPM's @ 72 gps. (1.50) = 15% probably a good reason why the drive let go...just to damn much stress on the thin gears! I was working on trimming it up more @ 5100 rpms when it let go, I believe it had more in it!

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. My only suggestion is load it up and take it to Jason Kunkel,he is a Checkmate and Procharger guru. I guarantee he will be able to take care of your problems.

sounds like a week drive and the better prop let it go
you are probably close to 600 hp and too much for a bravo anyway so it was a matter of time

I think they are one of the best they did my engine in my boat. Never once did I have any trouble.

How many hours are on the drive

What kind of prop were you running?

Sorry to hear about that Troy:(

Mr.Gadgets (Dick Tryce) over on OSO is one of the top drive guys, imo. He probably is busy as hell right now, but there is a reason for that... he's in Holland, MI ph 616-403-1006.

I'd try calling him and going over your options.

From what I've heard Kunkels is great as well... probably can't go wrong with either of em.

You are exactly right Mark, these were my thoughts too! The old prop was slipping enough and the new one I was trying "hooked up" better causing the stress on the original '99 thin walled bravo one to let go. I knew it was a matter of time until this happened.

How many hours are on the drive

To my knowledge Big Red, the drive has never been gone thru and has 240 hours on it. The M3 procharger has been on this boat since 2000, it had finally had enough

They were both 28's, the old one came with the boat and was a "turbo TXP" not the best piece to start with for a decent sized "V". The one I was trying was a Bravo one labbed for a similar boat as mine that was tweaked with a little more cup to pull it out to about a 29" (what I was told) probably true since I had trouble getting more than 5100 RPM's out of it.

I have found a guy locally (10 miles away) that rebuilds drives, especially bravo's, and is going to rebuild mine with XR gears and strengthen all the weak points! Going out to pull the drive off now!

I am going down Fri. morning and launch at the dam.Check253 is staying at State Dock and will probably launch at the dam.I haven't heard from the others.

I got a covered dock reserved at State Dock... well its supposed to be covered- we'll see. Even has a 110v outlet for my hillbilly A/C!!:bigthumb:

I dunno where we'll launch from... gotta talk to Brian.
