Checkmate Regatta/Poker Run In Ohio

BYOB is fine , but cannot leave your boat.Captain must remain sober for event. Legal limit is now .08 . Lyman has extended the happy hour for our group. They have two beer trucks on the lawn plus mixed drinks inside during the
concert which ends at 11

Have a question to all that are attending. Is everyone that is going on the factory tour, bringing their boat with them? If not, where is everyone keeping their boat? Wasn’t sure if the harbor is available Friday.
Thanks.

SWAP MEET at the Regatta...

I am bringing my old manual Springfield Marine "MAX FORCE" 5.5" jackplate in case someone wants it. I upgraded to 12" of Hydraulic jackplate so I don't need this anymore. Make me an offer I'm sure it won't be refused or bring something boat oriented to trade ;-) Cash would be better so I can spend it at Kunkel's

I need a swim step 1 or 2 step flip up ladder if anyone has an extra.

We are coming with 2 boats fron Michigan and we're both planning on taking the tour and bringing our boats with us. Want to ask Checkmate about a couple things and take advantage of this opportunity.

I think we might have the only Checkmate in the world with a #6 drive and really want to see what Kip and crew think.

Bill

Coop, it was nice meeting you too. Maybe next year things will work out for that cookout at your place. That sounded like it was going to be a lot of fun.

Where do I start...

Stacey really enjoyed herself and made many comments about how "these Checkmate folks are much nicer and friendlier then those Hotboat folks". She had a great time and felt very welcomed by everyone. The Kunkel's folks even stopped to say goodby when they saw us in the parking lot at Breakfast this morning. What a great group of people. Stacey is already looking over hotel info we collected at breakfast this morning so SHE is ready to book when a date is set for next year

Obviously Mya feels the same way. You would have thought she was the forum member here and not me with the way everyone welcomed her, and she was wearing and tripping over her new Checkmate jacket the minute I unpacked it tonight. Thanks to the organizers for the wonderful gesture. She won't stop saying "that's my jacket Daddy" when I pick it up and consider trying it on.

Best boating vacation ever. A little to short for such a long drive (right Big Dave), so lets do at least a whole weekend next year, and we may even make a week out of it for the family vacation. Imagine that... going West to Ohio instead of East to the Beach for vacation, go figure

Best boating vacation in bad weather (glad we came and didn't bail because of weather, that'll teach me)

Best group of people I've ever met boating, and not only will we be there next year, we hope to see some of you again this year if a last minute event can be set up "have boat, tow vehicle, and trailer, will travel"

We think, especially Mya, that Checkmate and Kunkel's did an AWESOME job, so much so I had my post vacation depression face on all the way back to little old Dillsburg, PA

I wanted to lay on the floor and throw a temper tantrum "NO I DON"T WANT TO GO HOME" but Mya had that covered. This was a huge success in our book because of the organizers so another big thank you needs to go out to them, THANK YOU!!! "May I have another"

just walked in the door, what a great weekend!except for the ride home. it started 20 miles east of sandusky with a flat on the trailer. three hours later back on the road .then somewhere east of rochester we blew another. only an hour for this one. back on the road again 50 miles later a third.tomorrow i got to go and get it 200 miles one way. other than that it was a great weekend

It was a great week-end. Everyone was friendly and hospitable. Hats off to the folks at Lyman Harbor. I thought that the food and people at Lyman did an outstanding job hosting this event. I would like to see the poker run held at Lyman Next year. My wife and I are looking forward to next year already.

Man that was a fun day... rain or shine... boat problems and all.

I must say, WOW, some of those boats can rip! I never had so much water shot in my face from the spray and props blasting in front of me... I needed windshield wipers on my glases.

I guess next time, I'll keep my slow boat off to the side until the dust settles.

Did you have the new prop on this week??

We got to bs witht he guys from Kunkels and that gave us some pretty good info on props.

I want to thank Bill, Kip, and Mike for the hospitality Friday. We ended up spending almost all day at the Checkmate factory and had a great time. All in all the weekend was the most fun we've ever had in a boating related event. Already planning on staying through Sunday next year.

CNC Wizard,

Yes, I had the new prop on. It was slower at WOT but cruised better, handled better, etc.

The Revolution 4, 14 5/8" x 21" pitch turned a max 4500 at WOT and only 51 mph.

I just can't grasp the fact that the boat can only do 51 mph (GPS) now with a L29, 454 MPI. I use to be in the 60's with the old 330 engine.

Did the Kunkels clan give you any advice you can pass along to me??

And yes, Kip was really nice when I spoke with him after the event too. I left the marina and had to come back to look for my glasses at the bar (drinking, it makes you forget things) and he and a few other were complimenting my old boat

It felt good to have some compleiment made by the man who built the vessel.

The information the Kunkles gave was great but it pretty much pertained to the boat I was with. I do know/find out that the ignition on some of these mercruiser engines have a set limiter for rpm, in our case it is 4600 but were gonna change that.

I remember buying two guys a beer @ the bar sat evening, I know one of them was one of the Kunckle guys was the other one you?? Only if I was better with names

Stacey, Mya, and I were sitting in front of a group of folks from Hagerstown, MD but we didn't get their names and info before we left. Could someone fill me in or if you all are on this board please shoot me a note. We want to come and check out the river down your way and meet all the Checkmate owners

"As soon as my hostig site clears the pics I will post them in a seperate thread.

Chad"

CNC Wizard,

If you know the info please post names and screen names with your pics when you do post them. If you don't will everyone please identify yourselves as pics are posted for us newbies with memory problems? Sorry for being rude, I just don't want to forget the folks I met and the ones I didn't get to meet but chat with here on the board.

Well, we made it home today!! No trailer problems the whole trip

I just want to thank everyone for making this one of my most memorable wedding anniversary's(22 this year) ever. We had a wonderful time.
Hope to make it back next year. A special thanks to Bill, Mike, and Kip for making us feel welcome and as important to them as you guys that have new boats.
David and Alyson Hoyle
