Convincor LS Swap Project Thread

Corey, is the motor tuned and fuel pressure set? Are you now just checking for leaks?

Yeah, we got the motor pretty well dialed in on the dyno. I set the fuel pressure and idle when we had it running on the hose. Since I have only had it running on the hose I want to dunk it and see what kind of water pressure it makes pumping on it's own. I'm thinking, if anything, it'll make too much pressure. That brass pump is a bad mofo. Just incase it does make to much, I bought a MERC pressure relief valve that I can plumb in pretty easy.

Nice!!! I'm sure like me, you are starting to feel much better about coming to an end of the build. I'm hoping to get mine dialed in this weekend, fingers crossed all my "bugs" are gone and it's trouble free boating for me the rest of the season. I'm just hoping my Bravo lives........

I'm glad to be done building and rigging, but I'm kind of dreading the "bugs" stage. Hopefully all goes well and I'll be on the water very soon!!!

MOTHER F*%@ER!!!! Got it fired up on the hose today and yep, still have reversion. I can't believe this thing is still sucking water in!!! The water now doesn't enter the exhaust stream until 1/2" before the end of the tip. Nick (ndaniels) took a really good slow-mo video that shows the water sucking back in. I am not sending anything back to Lightning since i probably won't get it back this year, so I am going to modify the tips myself to make them completely dry. This should only take a couple of days. The damn thing sounds awesome with the dry exhaust though!!!

Here is the video Nick took. Don't mind the blue tape everywhere, I'm still working on my transom touch ups..

Alright, here's another update.

I said screw trying to fight this reversion problem I have been struggling with and just made the pipes totally dry.

I started off by cutting off the old tails and cuttin new ones. Then I welded them to the inner pipe on the ends to completely seal them up. Then I drilled a 1" hole and welded in a -10 AN fitting inside the transom.

Then I picked up a dual outlet thru-hull fitting from Hardin Marine. And after three hours of measuring, and re-measuring (along with a few beers) I finally got the nerve to cut the holes in the transom. After they were cut, I sealed them with epoxy, then cranked them full of silicone and installed the fitting. Turned out pretty good.

Got her fired up and bingo!!! No more reversion!!!

So I buttoned up the rest of the exhaust including the trim rings and the stainless flappers I got from Hardin Marine to protect against wave intrusion into the headers.

If the old saying is true that "Loud Pipes Saves Lives", well I'm a very safe man. Damn thing is LOUD and sounds pretty rowdy!! After checking it on the hose again, it was FINALLY time to dunk her. I backed her in, and fired her up to check how well she pumps water. Seemed to pump fine and I didn't see any leaks, so I backed her off the trailer. First thing I noticed was how much more sensitive the boat was to weight distribution than before. My guess it its from the massive weight loss ( and the few extra I put on over the winter). I was running a 25p Mirage Plus and she jumped right up on plane. I was pretty nervous having her out the first time so I was constantly watching gauges and running back to watch the engine and how the water was running out of the thru-hulls. I had the hatch and swim platform still off at this point. Everything was checking out good and she had good vitals on the gauges. As I have her just a little bit of throttle I knew the prop was probably too big as it revved a little sluggishly. But then I realized the drive was still trimmed all the way down. I trimmed her up a little bit and it came to life!! She revved up much better (I'm still not beating on it, only taking it to 4000rpm or so). One thing that has been discussed on here that is proving that it maybe a problem is that I might have dropped too much weight out of the back. With just a little bit of trim I noticed I was shooting a pretty good rooster tail which it never did before. I weighed the hatch and platform and they are about 150lbs, so I'm hoping that reinstalling those will help with this. If not, I'm going to have to put some weight back into it. All in all I only had it out for about 10-15 minutes and ran a few miles, but all the stuff I built seemed to work. Now I have the daunting task of trying to get her all dialed in. Good news is, as of now, she'll make it to the Owners Rally next weekend. Probably won't be running her too hard or to far, but she'll be there for me to show off. Lol. I'll keep updating this as I start playing with her more.

Here's a short video my mom took of me from the deck of their house of me going by on the first run.

Very cool!

Got to be great feeling, finally getting her wet.

Be interesting to see where you end up on set up.
I hope and wouldn't think the weight loss would be an issue.

Great job.

Awesome stuff! Congrats on getting it running.
My 259 rooster tails before I hit the first mark on the trim indicator.
I don't see a problem with it unless it's handling bad or not getting water pressure.
Rooster tails save lives!
Go spray a bridge!

She sounds awesome on the video. Great job Corey! I would think the 3 Blade would do better then the Bravo 1 4 blade. You do not need any more stern lift.

Thanks guys, and yeah, it felt good to have her on the water even if it was just a short run. Now its all about seeing if it'll work as I hope it should. This coming weekend will most likely be a test/break-in weekend. Just going to cruise her around and make sure everything is good to go. After that, I have 3 or 4 props to start playing with. Both 3 and 4 blade. Gonna take a lot of playing to see what works!!
