Supporting Member?

Ok, here it is, my complaint. I've been trying to just upload a pic on the Boat of the Month pic for August and it doesn't give me an option to upload a pic. I contacted the moderator, Chris, and he wrote back to me that I'm not locked out of anything. However, he did say that I should become a supporting member to have more features to the site. That's great if you can find the link to do so! This site is great but it's too busy. I can't find the link to become a supporting member, nor will it let me upload a simple picture. I belong to other BBs boards and never had this problem, nor had to support it. I did that by just joining their organization. So, if someone could tell me what it is that I'm doling wrong, that would be great! Notice, I'm not blaming anyone.

Theres a few ways to post pics you don't have to pay.

Ron, sorry, but I didn't tell you to become a supporting member to have more features, so I take a little offence to the way you're trying to paint things here.

We have 9000 plus members on this site and currently there are 75 or so supporting members. I'm not complaining about that, I'm just pointing out that many people use the site here and the majority aren't supporting members. Your comments lead one to believe that I tried to make some sales pitch to you and that's simply not the case. I find it kind of ironic that on one hand you're complaining that you're being pushd into having to support the board to access features and then on the other you're complaining that I haven't made it clear enough on how to become a supporting member.

The reality is that there are both security and cost issues with opening up OUR SERVERS and allowing any member that simply signs up for a membership to start uploading files. By restricting file uploads to people who are supporting members, that reduces the security risk and it helps to keep the servers costs reasonable as it takes server space to store files.

The true facts are that you emailed the site vaguely asking for help, stating that you felt your account had been locked for some reason and I surmised that your issue had something to do with posting pics. I responded and to you giving you a link to the picture posting thread that is posted in the help forum and explained that there were two sets of instructions, one for supporting members and one for non supporters and pointed out you would have to follow the appropriate set. What I didn't do was tell you to become a supporting member to allow you to "have more features on the site".

Since you've asked what you're doing wrong, I would suggest that perhaps you might get faster answers if you try looking around the site and posting in the appropriate forums before making complaints and sending off emails asking for help. There is a feedback and help forum set up, the picture posting instructions are pinned to the top of the forum as they are also pinned to the top of the picture posting forum - so are a set of instructions on how the supporting member program works. If you look in that forum, you'll probably find many of your questions have aleady been asked and answered in that forum. If not, try using the site's search system. If that doesn't help, then by all means start a new thread and post your question and more than likely one of the other members will help fairly promptly, or if not, I'll do my best to help when I'm on-line. :)

Thanks for taking the time to explain things in your perception of what I was asking. However, when I wrote my Post, I didn't get your email response to my email unfortunately before I wrote my post asking for help. Currently, I'm on vacation so I didn't have access to a computer, so it was just timing. Also, as in any email or text message, you can never hear the tone of the other person, so sincerely, I wasn't yelling or blaming, or even complaining. It was more of frustration if anything. I've been a user for a while, not just the other day. I've honestly never gone thru the site until the other day when I noticed the site on my favorites list. I'm a busy person with being in the marine industry so I don't always have those Free moments this time of the year.

I saw a section in the Forums regarding August boat pic of the month and I just wanted to upload a picture of mine. It doesn't let me do it. I've tried to find the Icon for the Supporting Member, I couldn't find it. I found the site very busy to navigate thru, just my opinion. I belong to Wera.com, CCSForum.com, and I don't have to go to photobucket, this shop or that shop just to upload a picture. Your site has a familiar layout just like theirs.

Now, I understand your issue with new people signing up and corrupting servers etc; however, I would like to think that boaters are not going to sabotage the system, jmo. Anyway, I got your email, I will follow the instructions to activate the feature to upload pictures.
