Ebay '93 Pulse 170 RED!

That boat would look good behind my red truck w/ my black mota hanging off the back.:D
 
I've had all three 'basic' Checkmate colors for my boats: Black, Red, and
White. My favorite in the showroom was my black boat, my favorite on the lake was my red boat, and my favorite to keep clean was my white boat.

As much as I'd love to have another red based boat, our hard water up here is just too water-spotty :eyecrazy: A LOT of work to keep my red Persuader cleaned off. White is so much easier ;)
 
I have an exciter and would like to replace it with an open bow. Do you guys have enough space in the 170's? In this price range it's either a mid/late 80's starliner or an early 90's slightly smaller 170. Its a tough call. Newer boat (170) vs. more space(starliner). What do you think?

Mlpeeps the pulse 170 can seat 4 people comfortably. The rating says 8 people. For me, the wife and son it's plenty of room. I think JW and myself has pix of the interior somewhere on the forum.
 
oops i didn't realize they were showing the interior. The boat is actually bigger that it looks.

Good luck finding a Starliner, I'd grab this one.
 
I vote newer Pulse 170. I stand 6' 4" tall, and I can easily fit in the bow of the Pulse 170, I can fit in the drivers seat no problem, and I can sit in the back seat behind the driver no problem. In other words, there's PLENTY of room all over the Pulse 170.
I firmly believe CMate is making a mistake by NOT building the Pulse 170 in this day of high fuel costs. A 150 horse motor set up properly can make a Pulse scary fast and still legal to insure, hold 8 people no problem, and fit inside a normal 2-car garage without being at an angle and taking up both spaces.
Now a Starliner is a great boat too, but to go 70 you'll need 50 more horsepower, more area to store the boat, and the greater risk of wet core/transom/floors as compared to a newer boat. All things being equal that is...................

Unfortunately, no. I can't speak for the bow area, but the main cockpit area is too tight for larger people. The drivers seats are so close together, you can't hardly squeeze between them. One dealer we have in the north country uses the 1600 to 'sell up' to the larger boats. He sold one 1600 in particular 3 times to three different people that used it for a season, and then traded in for a larger Checkmate.
I DO think the 1600 is an important boat to have in the line-up, but it doesn't work for me. The Pulse 170 is the perfect 'small' or 'economy' size for people that don't really want to squeeze too much. I DO think the 1600 could work for me, if CMate reconfigured the gunnels so they were much narrower and moved the drivers seats out away from each other. All modern generic boats have a very narrow gunnel to maximize cockpit space. For the 1600, CMate should take a look at the 16' Smokercraft/Starcraft boat for maximizing cockpit space.
 
I see your point, I did not get that feeling when I saw one of the 1st 1600s at a NY Boat Show - but then again I was in a 96 Playmate Jet at the time, so any other boat felt big to me.

After having a Chaparral 200 SSi for the last 4 seasons, it going to be an adventure to get back in a Playmate next summer.
