Help w/ Headers

I have a stock 7.4 Mercruiser w/ a M1 Procharger in a 219 Persuader and I'm looking to install some headers or high flow manifolds/risers. I'm interested in better sound and of course more flow and power. I've been told it could really help w/ the Procharger. Any thoughts or advice on what product to buy? I'm looking for the best bang for the buck and won't ever put the boat in saltwater.

No, its not a mag. Wish it was though, would be nice to have the beefed up internals. I'll ride this motor till it needs work or until I have some more money to build it up a bit. Should be good for a while, has approx 315 hrs.

I agree call up MKHAMMER i just did my self and placed an exhaust order, great guy to deal with takes his time and explains things no rushing around!

call Hammer as well....but I have a new blower motor short block, 454 4 bolt main, 4.25 eagle stroker crank, eagle I beam rods, KB blower pistons, balanced, 489 ci $3500 Rob

I say call Jason Kunkel at Kunkels marine. They have been hot rodding Checkmates since 1970 and are heavy into procharger set ups. Plus their are a couple of very active members on this board that Kunkels have procharged their boats.

You can not beat hands on and experience with proof to back it up.

i second that:D jason has been great to deal with!

I've got a Kunkels motor in the 24 Super.. seems to run pretty good.:D

I'd get a set of Imco Powerflows. I have them on both my boats and they work great, no leaks, and no known problems. You can find a set of used ones relatively easily, or even get a good deal on a new set. I've never had a set of tubular exhaust, but with the setup you and I have- I don't think they'd gain much, if anything, over the Imcos... they do sound really good, though.

Another option, if you have the room under the hatch, is a set of Keith Eckert manifolds. Every now and then a used set come up for sale and they are badass. I don't have the room, or else my motor would be sporting a set of em! It might be too tight in your bilge as well (esp with the blower).

I'd look at the offshoreonly.com swap shop section for exhaust.. lots of high perf stuff is listed over there.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I had a set of Imco Powerflows and never once had any problems. They were on the boat when I bought it, and on it when I sold it 6 years later.

I would also consider a good used set if anyone has or knows of any.

I have a nice set of Imco's with Imco stock height risers with about a foot of good exhaust hose on them. I never ended up putting them on the old boat. I also have a new hardware and gasket kit from MK Hammer that is unopened in the box. I've got ~ $1200 invested in them but am open to an offer. PM me if you're interested.

Glad no one brought up EMI's. While i'm sure plenty of people had good luck with them, i did not due to a poor cooling design that ate up some pretty expensive exhaust hoses. They eventually fixed the manifolds but not before i was out a good bit of $$$ on new hoses and removal and re-install X2. Imco would be my next choice should i ever have to go through this again.

Anybody else have any input. Seems the concensus to far is IMCO Powerflows. I've also ben considering Lightning tubular freshwater headers. How hard is it to install something like this? Should I have a pro do it?

I have EMI's Thunder manifolds with the long stainless risers.....came with the boat....sound great, never had an issue with them.
