I'm starting to like Jet drives

Blizz

On that hull you'll probably pull more air with it backwards like cowl induction.

That's what I was told Blizz, I may need to point it rearward after all don't know. I do plan on running the old school cowl induction hood emblems on it. That much I do know and I also plan on swapping the hinges so the hatch will hinge at the transom rather than at the back seat. That's gotta make things better for checking the engine from inside the boat. I just need to make sure it never comes open at high speed!
That could get ugly fast :yell:
Thanks Fred

Thanks Dude! I might be heading down south to FL this winter Ill let you know if and when.
I always thought it looked like a Donzi too. It sure rides like one (but faster) hehehe:devil:

Yeah the windshield on that hull will deflect most of the wind over the hull and will be pulled back in at the stern kinda like sitting right behind the cab of a pickup

The Big Brown Truck

I love it when UPS comes to the house. Got my Milodon stainless steel dip stick and loud cut Pete Jackson gear drive set for the BBC today :bigthumb:

MX-16 PROJECT

Todd
It looks like you have your hands full on the MX-16 project. Good luck, it will take time but you will have a blast with it when it's done. I found a MX-16 for sale just down the road, not far from my place. The boat looks really nice, almost looks mint but when I went and checked it out I found out that the transom is shot. Talked to the owner who didn't seem to know how bad it really was. Now he has decided to keep it and fix it rather than sell it. I turned him on to this web site and he was blown away. He had no idea what so ever that Checkmates had such a following. As far as getting together at SML that sounds way cool just let me know when you will be in and we will hook up. Lake Anna has got to be a must for you next year. You have gotta see that. The Beast Of The East is a really good time for all. A good way to find out about all the hot boat gatherings in your area is to check out www.hotboat.com and go to the east coast hot spots section. As I recall you are on the east coast located near Richmond. I checked out all the pics on your toy site, good job. Keep up the good work and we will talk to you later :thumb:

Nearly time to bed in some stringers

I started to make up the stringer templates last week. Starting out with card board then I will make a test set out of 1/4" plywood. Need to be sure they fit well before I start cutting on the new furr boards. I don't want to screw up and have to make them twice. The cost of two 2X6X14 furr boards was over 80 bucks! OUCH! http://003.jpg

Nearly time to bed in some stringers

I have my 2 gallons of Mertons Marine hull and deck putty ready for my bedding compound . As soon as the wood is cut I am ready to get things started. 2 gallons may be over kill but I do have a bunch of wood to bed in place. The gunwall wood the dash wood the transom wood and the stringers all need to be bedded in place before glassing in. After talking to a bunch of marine supply places and a few boat builders I decided to get my supplys from Mertons Marine. When you call you get to talk with the owner Joe Merton. He is really nice and he will take the time to talk to you about your project and help you decide what products will work best for you. If you need hull and deck putty, core bond, resin, glass, cloth, roved wovind or what ever call Joe at 1-800-333-0314

Hey Wicked you figured out what your gonna do with that eng cover yet? Projects lookin good lotsa work though eh.

LOTSA WORK ............ THAT'S 4 SURE

BLIZZ,
I have nearly given up on finding a complete factory engine hatch. Hell, I found one and dude was asking like 700 bucks for it! I only paid 600 for the hull, trailer and pump! Don't think the factory hatch will clear my intake, carb and air cleaner any way. I think a 42 or 44" by 4 or 5" tall cowl induction scoop is giong to do the trick to fill the void. I made one up out of cardboard and it looks OK. Think that's the plan but all my jet boat friends think a tunnel ram and two 4's or a blower will fill the void much better :bigthumb:

I think this idea can be pulled off.
What do you think? Will it look OK or will it look like ass?
