My New ride; checkmate convinsor 259

64 mph from a 454?
sometimes I wonder if my 500HP ever put out all it had
I run low 70s all day long

Don't get me wrong, my 64 mph pass was with just me, on a cool November day, running on fumes and nothing in the boat except what the coast guard says I have to have. Normally, my boat ran 58-59.

sounds like an impeller going bad or weak?
my temp stays steady
if it fluctuates I know it's time for an impeller

100% agree with this. Replace your impeller and while you are at it, replace the housing. I replace my impeller every year whether it needs it or not. Its only $30 or so here, so its probably about $3200 over there, lol. but it just makes it one less thing to worry about.

I guess that makes more sense, I've never run that light. At Norris when I ran 68 it was Lynch, Will and myself and at least 50 gallons of fuel. I still think I need to try a 28 pitch. I don't have much to compare to but I believe I come out of the hole really well and could afford to lose a little bit there to get some on the top end.

I couldn't spin a 28, even a factory labbed 28.
I've tried every possible prop but the 25 Mirage 3 blade labbed was my fastest at 74.6 but the 3 blade sucked for all around boating.
I use a 26 standard Bravo and can get 72 or 73 with 2 people, half tank fuel and 110* outside. Worst case was fully loaded and 4 people at 69 mph.
I guess it's not bad but I'm surprised at some speeds other guys are getting considering my horsepower.
And I've also seen my gps "bump" to a higher speed in rough water.

Higher octane won't make you more horsepower or make you go faster.
unless the motor was tuned for it
save your money

Got a question; my enginehours meter is also running when i put the radio on. Is that normal?
I noticed it when i was working on the boat and had the radio on.

I was with Jeff (jjg) texting last night and he is coming overhere next weekend.
We were a little in doubt about the weather next weekend. Forecast is rainy, lots of it. Going to look at it in the coming days; and if its still that i am going to winterize both engines. Senator and convinsor.

Yeah, I wouldn't pay for results like that. That's why i usually just do it myself. Its a lot of work, but I'm usually happy with my results.

Still an awesome looking boat though!!! :bigthumb:

i bought a buffer for that exact reason. i wouldn't trust someone to do the job up to my standards.

I have never been able to get any of my boats or hot rods done to my standards by someone else........so I also bought my own buffer and cleaning equipments many years ago.

It's actually not that bad to do yourself if you have the right tools and cleaners and polish, and you take your time and just make a day of it.
The trick is to not try and rush it, when you rush it or try to get it done quickly that's when it becomes difficult and exhausting.

That's just my two cents.....:o

I have found that a 12 pack comes in handy as well....
