Hi All....I am the proud new owner of a 1991 Convincor 253.

I am nervously logging in seat time as this is a new boating experience for me. My other boat is a 21 foot inboard slalom ski boat that my 7 year old daughter can drive to its limits and nobody is scared. The Convincor is a bigger and way different animal.

Boat has a 502, 600 hp and Bravo One drive, spinning a 26 Labbed Hydromotive prop. Reached 68 on the GPS, and started feel light. Also caught a rogue cross wind at low 60s and felt like it was on the verge of ejecting me...chined four times before I could ease off the throttle.

I would greatly appreciate any driving tips. I love the speed, but also enjoy life, predominantly from inside the boat!!

Get your credit card out, fill the tank about 10 times the next 2 months and you'll be fine, after you check the all the steering components for wear and or tightness.

On the other hand I'm in the same boat, after 20 yrs of dragging my butt thru the water in a starflite ( in water that would scare most). I now have to learn to handle a larger ZT. The first thing is I feel like I'm up off the water 10 feet rolling like a beach ball getting blown across the water. But when we ever get any nice weather around these parts, I'll running those 10 tanks through. Good Luck With Her!

Welcome! Where do you boat Sperry?

I've only been boating a a handful of years. I'm on my third Check; I had a 16' Enticer, 21' Pulsare and now I have a 25' Convincor as well. the Convincor is a totally different animal but with all three of them somewhere in the upper 50's the boat goes from boring to exciting. The hull starts getting some air up under her and she starts to fly. I learned in my small boats that I have to be very aware of the running conditions when going fast. If I was aired out in the mid 60's and hit an expected wake at the wrong angle I would get that "pucker" that I didn't always like. If I hit that same wake at 40, I'd just bounce a little too much and it really wouldn't be a big deal.

Something important when running fast is to make sure your steering is in exceptional condition. Do you have hydraulic steering?

It all comes down to seat time. I picked up my 253 last fall and am still learning her ways. What's done to the motor? A 600hp 502 should have you mid to upper 70's I would think.

A '91 is a 251. They have a narrow beam and are a real drivers boat. It will take you some seat time to learn how she likes to be handled.


Side note kamikaze is dumb azz and now has red for rep.
if enough of use give him bad rep he will be gone.

if your boat does not have full hyd steering and that kind if power going to get dicey for sure, ran 82 in my 251 without it....once

Thank you to everyone for the input and amazing responses. I boat out of Balsam Lake on the Trent Severn Waterway in Ontario Canada. Engine is a spider works motor, on a fresh tear down and rebuild last season. It's obnoxiously loud and I love it (neighbours not so much lol). I will get some pictures up here once I figure out how. I look forward to chatting with you all more and perhaps one day in person, on the water!!!
