Powerboat Mag / article on Convincor 300...

That is a standard Eddie Marine Elite Series Guage...

q2.jpg
I have the GPS Eddie Marine Elite Series Guage, and it has a GPS emblem right under the MPH letters.

From my expeience the standard guage was about 1 to 3 mph off from the GPS guage.....Not to bad.

I must disclose that this was on an outboard, but that shouldn't make a difference as they are all smartcraft.

Thanks for the info!!! Now there is the speed diff from what PB showed. Makes complete sense.

Still a very nice boat!!!

I could be wrong but i thought that was a GPS speedo. I remember noticing the antenna was mounted in a different place then the one on my boat. I might be wrong though.......Kip will know-

Just going to plug my 2 cents for what is worth. I got the new mag in the mail and read the review. Of course fire was shooting out of my ears! I can't believe they called it a smooth water boat??? I own a 2001 300 Convincor single engine and by far it is one of the best rough water single engine boats out there, if not the best. I know the newer bottom is lighter and has the notch in the transom which helps it release better and does ride a little nose high compared to my bottom as i have driven both. What I can't figure out is why the he__ did they test a boat with that many upgrades and the Merc blue motor upgrade for 30k or whatever and have the cheap P.O.S. trim tabs on it? I know from my experience that K planes certainly make this boat run much better in the rough water. I know every customer is different and wants what they want, but come on with that much money in other upgrades on this boat? Like I said, just my 2 cents. And for what it is worth my wife even said the same thing, and she read the article before i got home form work.

What did the antenna look like?

The one from Eddie Marine looks like a small white hockey puck (about 3" in diameter and 1" in height).

This is what mine looks like...Notice the GPS symbol

Definitely a difference there!

Maybe it is an older style GPS or something, I am probably wrong. :brickwall:

Jeff, I agree with your post. I always thought the 30' Cmate was a great riding boat. The 30' hull does seem to ride nose high and a little looser (like a Velovity) then other hulls. But this is why the boat is faster then other boats on the market. Like someone else posted, the PB guys have been driving around in 40+ footers to long.......

The remark that I didn't like from PB was that Checkmate was a "regional" builder. It makes them sound like they are making boats in someon's garage on a part time basis. Granted, you probably don't see to many Mates on the West coast but how many Hallets, DCBs, Eliminators, Liberators etc do you see on the East coast? Also, even at reduced production the last few yrs, I'm sure CM has shipped alot more boats then other manufactures with boats at the PB trials.

Cheers-

My '99 283 Convincor w/ twins handles the rough well, IMO. That's in the washing machine that is LOTO. My $.02.

Speedo..

Hea guys.....the digital speedo/GPS speedo from Eddie is the same gauge just says GPS on it if customer wants to hook GPS antenna to it. ..we stock both and i'm pretty sure this particular boat had antenna in it. I agree on the ruff water capabilities of this boat ! I've had several of these over the years and i don't think you'll find a better ruff water 28 'er single or dual. Plus they ran it in 1 to 2 ft'ers and and desided to make those statements .....doesn't make any sense !

Kip, I spend the summer hanging with a 42' Fountain, 40' Excalibur Hawk, and a 38' Cig Top Gun on LOTO, so I put mine to the test. I'm the little boat of the group. No problems so far. :bigthumb:
