Press Release-New Checkmate Convincor Coming in 2012

Wasn't there talk initially of there being an outboard version of the new 26? One with twin 300's would be pretty cool I think! Or maybe even one 300 would be sufficient but two is always better than one!

Just wondered if anyone has heard talk or has anyone ordered one?
I wanna see one built.

Has anyone read the newest addition of SportBoat Mag where they did a write-up of the new Convincor and a little history of Doug Smith comming from Baja to Checkmate.
I was wondering what the Checkmate "die-hards" in the forum think of the mags comments regarding how the new Convincor is a Baja "hybrid"

I like the new Checkmates but have always thought they are looking a little on the fat side much like a Baja. Not trying to be negative it's just what I see every time I look at one. The red 26 is very nice and I would be happy to own one. I'll have to check out the article in Sportboat.

Well I guess I am going to have to go get a copy.
I have been looking but my local book stores RARELY if EVER carry either sport boat or powerboat.

Just went to Barnes & Knobel today and picked up the new issue of Sport Boat, haven't read the article yet on the 26 but it's nice to see Checkmate getting some more magazine coverage!! Like Kurtster said, i did see the "Baja hybrid" quote, i'm sure that's gonna go over well around here, we'll see. It's still a pretty cool boat!

Thanks for the new pic viper! that yellow is slick looking!!!

The baja hybrid thing didn't bother me because we already all knew that thats what it is. What sucks is that in the story they are for sure going to stop production of the convincor 270 and zt260. With more new boats to come in the future. So I assume that the zt280 is safe for now? I know I'm partial to my 259 but the zt 280 I guess is the last of these boats with this hull. If more new boats are to come I'm worried that eventually all the checkmate diamond style hulls are going to go.

No Checkmate at the Miami show becuase they "don't have a dealer down there yet", Isn't Wildman's shop a Checkmate dealer and in Florida?? I obviously don't know the logistics of that, just an observation. The Punisher and the Convincor's should be at the Miami Boat Show, IMHO, thats where all the "big dog's" of the industry will be in February, Checkmate deserves to be right there with them!

I just finally got around to reading the SportBoat artical, that caught me by supprise when they said the 270 Convincor and the ZT260 are being phased out. I'm glad Checmate is doing very well in this tough economy today, but geez pretty soon there will be no new true 100% Checkmates left in their line up, they are all gonna be left over Baja's. I don't mean that to bash Smith or Baja however, I really like the new 260 Convincor, but there is no mistaking it's "Outlaw" look.

i would guess and hope that Checkmate hangs onto the 270 molds and im sure if anyone wanted one they would build it. but it does seem that Checkmate has alot of presently advertised boats in the 24 ' to 28 ' hull size . im thinking 5 boats zt260 , 270 , the new con.260 & zt280 & con. 300. thats 5 boats separated by 2 to 4 ft it does seem like alot . i guess the sales will and have decieded what stays and what goes. i cant think of any current boat companys with that many boats within 4 ft of hull size. you could spend months just trying to figure out what new Checkmate to order.

I'm sure it would be nice for the punisher to be at the fl show but that's not up to Doug it's not his boat. I would think Seeley wright would want it there since you can't buy one without talking to them. Either way the new 260 looks great and I don't care what anyone says about the Baja roots to it because I actually like the looks of Baja boats. There's a lot of Baja bashing here and I don't really get it, maybe it's because I'm new to the checkmate scene.

There's a lot of Baja bashing here and I don't really get it.

I think the bashing for the most part is just powerboating banter for fun, however there are a few hardcore Checkmate traditionalists that will never like the Baja "egg" shaped boats.
Personally, I also like some of the Baja's --- I have a friend with an Outlaw and his boat is one badass boat.

As far as "how to build boats" --- the "slightly" troubling thing I inferred from the SB article was a slight philosophy change in manufacturing practices regarding leaning towards the "sub-assembly" idea of assembly --- I understand the economics of it all, however I hope Checkmate doesn't lean too far into the "cookie cutter" manufactuing philosophy.

i have always liked the baja outlaw, they are generally heavy and slow and plentiful but i like them . as far as contruction i have no first hand knowledge but i have read many times that the liner outlaws are less desirable because of cracking issues with the liners there are many documented pics of cracks , maybe towards the end they got it right but you have to think that just a little hull flex over time will crack a liner. but again none of these boats checkmates or outlaws are true purpose built offshore race boats . Checkmates have no equal for the price and im no offshore racer so if it has a 10yr hull warranty to the original owner you should be ok.

We're a little off topic, but the thread was nearly dead anyway. So...

I'm not a fan of the Baha look, they look fat to me. This 26 only looks good with the right graphics on it, so far the only one I like or would want to buy is the one with the old style cig graphics as they kind of slim it down.

From a marketing point, if the other hulls in this size(ZT260, 270) are not selling and this one is, then you've got to move on. The only BR they have the in that size range is the 270, getting rid of it might be a mistake?

I'm not buying that size boat, so it really does not matter what I think:D
The boats I want 2100BR or 2400BRX are selling well so I should be OK when I'm ready to buy.(Unless they start messing them up like the 2000BRX:sick:)

As far as the 10yr hull warrantee thing, it might not be wise to buy a used CM boat from the transition years. The new CM does not seem to honor warrantees from boats built buy the old leadership:sick: If I am buying a 03 -10 CM boat I'd check the hull very carefully knowing that it really has no warrantee.

Karzrus, you make some good points but i believe the cm warranty only applies to the original purchaser of the boat and is non-transferable.
