Reed's 1979 Trimate 2

Both Cleavers and Choppers are designed to be surfaced, i would leave your motor where it's at and try a big chopper it'll suck outta the hole but should net you decent numbers if you can spin it.

I have not run the 27p yet. I was turning the 25p laser into the 6800-7400 range. I needed to move the motor up but I was at the limit of the rack plate that used to be on it. So I was running a bit deep. Can't help you with the letters. I got luck and found mine an ebay a few years back.

Guss ;I have my motor set on the bottom adjusting holes on the holes that are on the Merc pivot section I think there are 6 that sets my bob's nose cone tip about 4 in below the point/center of the transom.. Thant is with the jackplate all the way down and not adjusted up any at all.
I don't have time tonight but I have some more pics to put on photo bucket to share with everyone, I hope my testing and posting of the props will help any and all with setting up their motors. ( I like to help any way I can ) ;)

That's too deep for those props.

Hey Bizz before I change the setup on the motor and jack plate I'll lower the motor all the way down and take a pic and post it with how it sets, I think when it is in the water running there is about 2 in of the blade out of the water.. but to make sure I do it right I'll post the pics so ( that all that know more than me on ( setup ) can coach me. ( I don't know everything so teach me please ) ;)

My old setup was running about 2" below the "V". This was as high as I could get the plate. It will be interesting to see if you can get the chopper to run. I never had any luck with them. My boat would get real loose in the rear near 70. Not chine walk, just king of a butt move/wiggle. Only did it with the chopper and I was never able to drive out of it.

On my predictor i ran a 30P hoss .5" above the pad.

if i were you i would set the center of your cone 1" below the V and run that 28P.

Thanks to all I will try all sugestions

Guss I will try your setup 1st I have a 27 pitch chopper style spindle mount to try this weekend and I will try illmatics setup idea the next weekend since saturdays are the only day I have to test and play.
Guss I got the loose-wiggle at 55 and hammered into it got 60 and it smoothed out ,when I let out of the throttle it got ( dangerous-loose ) had to hammer into it for a sec and back out again. I'm thinking stabelizer trim plates will be added soon. I like to fly but that loose *@#t!!! is worse than chine walking ( I have no fear/ but lots of respect ) and that put a lil fear in me.
;)

the "loose" feeling is you starting to go fast. you will have to get used to it if you are to break 70. just take it easy and run it up a couple mph at a time.

loose = launch?? I have had a fast boat before a 14ft GW Invader that dry weight was 250-300 lbs and I had a 115 Merc on it it didn't get loose it just took off like a rocket. I was riding on the lower unit with that one it was totally different ;)

The loose feeling you get when you approach 60 is the boat breaking free from the water. all boats have a certain speed they feel loose at. you just have to learn how to drive through it and continue on. try to avoid backing out to fast over 60 MPH.

it sounds like you have all the power you need to go fast we just need to get on the right path with more seat time.

the spinning you may be having upon take off is normal with a chopper prop. you have to hammer it and then feather the throttle back a bit until it sound like its about to catch and then hammer it again.

if you are going to run an over the hub prop, may I reccomend the HOSS Triton? try a 28-30P. you wont be sorry.

Sorry, I'm testing a 27 pitch chopper this Sat I will post all the new pics and stats Sat evening. I'm dropping the engine on the jack plate it's too high right now ( not enough range in the adjustment up-down ) lol I got 60 with the 26, figure I'll get 70+ out ot the 27 ;)

Hey everyone, I got to the lake-reservoir today. I wasn't to happy we had tornado watch white caps on the water so we got a short time to test. I dropped only 500 rpm and gained 6 mph so I got 66 with the 27-- at 7000-7500rpm. the wind was making the boat dance way too wrong!!! It was lifting but not in a good way, so next sat I'm gonna try a 28-29 pitch.

man, how high are you running that thing? with those numbers you are running 31-35% slip!

I varied it from all the way down, tip of the Bob's 2in below the V of the transom.. Like I said the wind was crazy there was a tornado watch for the area and we didn't know it ( white caps ) lol guess I'm fearless in some ways ;) I'm working on the pics I'll stick them on disc and ten my photo bucket, I have some good rooster shots---- but they are far away my buddy Jeremy is new with the adjustments on my old camera lol

Hey everybody I will post the pics next week from my tests.... I have great news and bad news

the great news it I bought a house, so I have a 728sqft garage to tinker in again ( yahoo! )

Bad news is , I had to play games all week with the realitor and didn't get the prop I borrowed back to the guy I borrowed it from till this morning. ( guess he expected it back monday ) so not meaning to I guess I burnt the bridge for the ( prop -tests ) Dam I didn't mean to piss him off... oh well........ Now I guess I'll just have to buy a few off eBay and try them that way. More testing on the way before the ice gets on the water ;)

Get him some :cheers and after his 4th apologize and ask him to borrow another one.

I wish it would be that easy lol, he is a very by the book guy and I guess since he has a ( Hot Boat Shop ) and I'm trying to start a Custom boat shop he see's me as competition even though I will be doing more Glass customs than anything else. ( he is a different bird ) I will keep looking on Ebay for some exotic and drag props ~winks~
