The 21 Superboat:

Getting a few things done. Almost water ready, now... Oil and filter changed, drive oil is draining right now as I type, got the registration #s on, and new sea pump installed. I also decided to get by with the carpet that came with it for now, so I used plastic on the backside to keep the backer material from sticking to the floor again... it should work just fine. Livorsi couldn't repair the tach, but I found a new in the box tach that matched my instruments for 99bucks.
Looking good dude! and nice find on the tach. :thumb:

Lets see... I found a really interesting thing while I was in the middle of all this- the throttle was only opening around 3/4, maybe 7/8 of the way!!!!! I don't know if it will actually make a difference, but it definatly wasn't getting to wide open. I ground the fitting down for my breather that was stopping the throttle travel... here is the before and after shots along with the fitting.

The reg #s arn't an exact match, but look ok. I also had some superboat stickers made up while I was at it... I think it looks ok, but the hull yellowing really stands out now, imo.... haha, maybe I should have a set of off white ones made... or I could just have the whole boat polished out after a season or three.

Here is the bilge after I got it all tidyed up... I might have a tiny oil leak coming from the keyway for the balancer. I did try using some rtv on the bottom of the timing cover, but after I got finished I felt up tward the crank and I think its either that little keyway or the front seal... I've heard that the keyway needs some rtv on it and is somtimes overlooked??? I guess if it keeps it up, I'll figure it out... its a very tiny leak that only happens after the motor is run. I'll dig into the service manual and do some reading on the computer to see if it could be that keyway.

NICE!!!

that looks like new in there!!

that "yellowing" of the hull that you refer to, wouldnt look so bad if the walls of your garage werent so clean!!

Yeah Ron, I can't stop wondering about wether it'll make a difference. He ran 78 at tahoe with it, but its also 6500ft there. I really hope that he wasn't getting wfo and there is alot left in it! I know that supposedly there is a 18-19%hp loss at that elevation...

Buss, I hear ya about the garage... can't ever be too bright in a garage!!! I have a dungeon attached to the house that I park my truck in, so I went overboard when I built the backyard one.

I'm thinking that with the prop this deep and the stock bravo case, you probably will be right.

My guess was 83 with the standard length lower. I do really want to get a -3 on this thing, but it will be fun to see what I can make it do with a bravo before it expierences blow out or the chine becomes uncontrollable.

Place your bets!:poke:

With the final setup I could drive it at 65 and not pay attention to it. After you got to 70, you had to start paying attention... not bad at all, but you definatly had to balance the boat and keep working the wheel.

With the 175merc, I had some chine around 60... I ran a best of 66 but I had feedback rack steering and couldn't hold it there for long distances because my arm would get tired... sumbitch pulled the wheel hard when you were running the propshaft higher! I think the extra 68lbs of the 225 helped balance the boat a little better... I have a feeling that 12" would have been about right with the 175.

edit: Ron, I just searched for your jackplate thread... if you're running 63 with a 6" plate, thats pretty awesome. I really don't know if there was anymore left to gain in my 175 with additional setback, but I think that it might have helped some for the chine. That hyd steering was well worth the dough too, imo- but then again I was going from feedback rack steering to hyd, so it was a huge improvement.

According to the previous owner my Eluder chine walked badly over 60- that was the reason he moved the fuel tank to the front, lol. I guess if it will only do 55 it won't chine walk.

I moved the fuel tank to the back where it belonged and set the engine back 8", with the jack all the way down it will still walk a little but cranked up it will run 70 with zero walk, I'm going out one more time tomorrow before I try another 2" set back, every time I'm out it feels like the engine should be farther back.

In a perfect world I'd leave it at 8" and hang the 250 HO fishin mota off the back that I've been looking at :D but for now until the money tree in my backyard starts growing I'll have to hang on to the black mota for a while and see if more setback works.

edit- I agree with Nick, 63 is pretty impressive, I'm only seeing 70 with a 220

Nick, im maxed out where its at and im running a rack. its hell working the wheel at that speed. for now im going to leave it alone but next year ill do something with the steering. But i did start pricing 200 mercs yesterday.

"Theres no Replacement for Good Ole' Displacement" just don't hurt that Beauty.:thumb:

Nick, that thing is looking bad ass! We ain't that far away, we need to meet up before cumberland for some boating.
Sounds good... I gotta get it wet and see where the afr is. Then its on!:bigthumb:

I was gonna try and have it out by the end of next week... Friday/Sat, Anthoney (Needafunboat) is coming down to St. Mary's lake and I was gonna try and see that Stingray of his while he was down this way. I hope the weather warms back up, cause this cold sucks.

DO IT!!!!:poke: get that 200 merc, some hyd steering for and it will haul ass and drive like a Caddy! The Exciter worked great with some extra powa, I was really impressed with that hull. The steering is expensive, but well worth it, imo. Got my setup for $900 with the 2.0 helm, kevlar lines, and Allison cylinder.
