top speeds of these checks?

SippyRat

Well-known member
hey everyone! i am looking for the top speeds of these boats. all with the mercury 525 efi

300 convincor

270 convincor

270br convincor

ZT 280

The 300 with the notched transom will have the fastest speed. I think I heard 3-5mph over the non notched transom with the same motor.
then...
ZT280
270
270BR due to the extra weight of the open bow

thats an open ended question.....stock motor?

sorry. i am referring to new boats with the mercury racing 525 efi. i know many variables play a roll (gearing, prop, water cond. etc) i guess im just looking for somewhat accurate estimates. or hopefully some members have first hand experience.

if i call checkmate will they tell me what speeds to expect with a particular package?

If you call Checkmate and talk to Kip, he will give you the speeds. Thier phone no. is 419-562-3881. If you want to order a new one, call me and I will give you a KILLER DEAL! 386-761-8050. Thanx, Randy

I just looked at my dealer book. It says the 30 Convincor will run 77-80. That is usually on the low side. The other three boats do not have a projected speed for a 525. With a 425, the Convincor 270 shows about 3 mph faster than the 30. The 280ZT is about 1 mph faster that the 30, and the 270 BR is about 1 mph slower than the 30.

thanks everyone! You guys hit the nail on the head! i told myself (not my wife) that my next boat will do 80mph or better!!!!

WILDMAN, yeah i just found your site and more info on that sweet lib 25 i was looking for! man you do some great work! i noticed you only have outboards. do you get into the i/o's as well? if so you'll have our business for sure when we reach that point. i love the outboards but where i boat i need a deeper hull and the through hull sound is unforgetable.

any thoughts good or bad on the 525? is it as good as ive heared? can i get faster for not much more $ and keep the reliability?

I only stock the outboard boats, but can get anything. Everyone seems to be going outboard now. Checkmate says that they now sell over 80% outboard boats. As far as the 525, another $16-$18K for another 95HP just seems like alot of money to me. I/O boats don't sell very well down south. I have never sold one in the 7 years I've been selling Checkmates.

I/O's are the thing where i live. For the most part the outboards are on bass boats. The water gets rough here and must guys claim that the weight and placement of the i/o makes for a smoother ride.

What is the "notched transom" all about?

Is handling effected im any way by the notch?
On other brands of boats 28 ft and bigger with large steps or multiple steps, some owners talk of the boat acting like a smaller boat in big water. Meaning the boat does not handle big water as well as a similar size non-step hull. The notch in the 300 is small enough that it would be unlikely to make much of a negitive impact in this regard.

the ZT280 has a small step and a transom notch and is lighter than the 30 which is really 28ft and the ZT280 is really 26 ft and lighter by around 400lbs . in calm water or 1 feet of chop you would think the ZT280 should be faster. the step is very minimal on the Zt280 but it breaks the surface tension which is what all steps do, less drag more speed. the boats with the deeper steps can hook easier when your into a turn but going straight they are faster. I do know that Checkmate has a new ZT280 with a 525 that was just built and hopefully Kip has some numbers and can let us all know what she ran. But my guess is out of the group you listed the ZT280 is fastest by a few mph
