top speeds of these checks?

They said a labbed prop made the difference.
Powerboat mag sometimes does some odd things during a boat test. I took a new 24 Pulsare to Miami for thier test. I drove the boat at 78.4 on GPS. They took it out in a 2-3 ft chop and the driver asked the editor to ride with him. Well, the editor had to weigh at least 350 lbs! They still ran 74.6.

labbed eh? i don't see myself ever payin for that.

to change it up a bit..... lets talk gearing

my 4x4 and fast car days left me with a pretty good understanding of gearing but im in the dark on these outdrives.

so why choose one over the other? i mean, what are the advantages of one over another?

what is considered standard for the checkmates?

This made me laugh a little!
When your talking 6 digit boats, a labbed prop is just adding ketchup.

LOL i knew some joker would say that! the fact is where i boat your props can take some abuse and in 20 seconds that money spent on lab work is gone. the river changes often and underwater sand bars can form in days. bringing in all kinds of fun stainless chippers. so to me it would be foolish to pay for lab work

Most use the 1.5 ratio. If your running bigger motors, the 1.36 will allow a better prop selection instead of going with a custom made prop. Not sure what it works out to be...

1.5ratio + 30p = 1.36ratio + 26p(guessing)

Doug and Kip told me today that this boat now is running 82 mph. They said a labbed prop made the difference.

How can Checkmate throw a boat together and not have it perfectly setup when its going to editors to review performance???? Shame on them :pissed:

The same way when you get a new boat it always needs testing. They gave them a 80mph boat in there conditions, not the test conditions. Ever think maybe the driver was a beotch and the water sucked but they published it. I can't beat the factory for this one, they gave over a boat that they had as good. One man can always get more out of something then the other. A 1-3 mph difference isn't crap in my book with different drivers. I know I can get yours over 32.7 even with Nick pulling it!:rof:

if Doug and Kip say it runs over 80, i believe them. although it would be nice to actually see a gps read out and maybe a video, everyday we all sit here just waiting for such data from the factory, please guys throw us a bone every now and then we are your biggest fans. im just confused a little. im an engineer and i was thinking you would need at least 600 hp to run 80 on a daily basis in a 5500 +lb boat non step v bottom . I have enclosed a video of a velocity VR1 this boat holds a world record for speed its 28' 6" in length and weighs 4300lbs and thats very light for that size boat. Congrats to checkmate for beating a Velocity VR1 with 75 less hp. That is a very impressive feat .Slippy Rat if you do buy the boat please keep us informed on your speeds. good luck with your choice.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HY0_LEfECuI

Wont be anytime soon! Im just starting my research and i tend to over analyze a bit. But at these figures who can blame me. As of now its lookin like i may need to spend more than i originally planned to achieve my target speed. And two mills is out of the question. Need a fast reliable single.

If you charge a new motor does it void the factory warranty?

If you are referring to turbo or super "charge" then yes, an aftermarket performance upgrade like that would void your remaining factory warranty.

Backing up a couple of posts, like was mentioned earlier, labbing a prop is pretty minor when you are trying to dial in your baot and get the most performance out of it.

I want a 300 Convincor with a Merc 700 SCi or an Ilmoor 725. I would probably lean more towards the Ilmoor for the cool factor. Oh what the hell, they would both be really cool, nothing uncool about that big ole blue supercharged 700.

i spoke with Doug at checkmate today. he seems like a cool cat with a ton of knowledge on these boats. we talked for quite a while it seems once he gets wound up he'll go forever. i asked a bunch of questions and got my answers plus some. in a nut shell here is what i learned:

- the notched transom may gain a couple mph on smooth waters but under 40mph and she porpoises because their is less hull contacting the water. so yes it does effect handling. the last thing i want is to cruise down stream doin the "baja bounce" lol

- the 525's are not required to have the catalytic converter. however they do have to meet the noise requirements so the tail pipes have a built in muffle system but they seal on with gaskets so its easy to turn em into paper weights and install some open tips.

- he was pretty certain that mercury will void the warranty if you add the silent choice switches. which is bad news for me if it is true. i like to quiet mine down especially in the marina and some parts of the river strongly enforce the noise laws.(we don't go up there very much!)

- he couldn't say much about the reliability of the 600 for lack of experience with them but he swears by the 525 for its all around performance as well as reliability. and as others have mentioned 16k for 75hp is not worth it. well unless you've got it.

- oh and i'd like to reconsider the labbed props please! i thought thousands went into those things but if its just double the cost thats not too bad.

like i said he went on and on and i learned a lot. i thought i would post up on some of the things we have talked about in this thread

The bouce your talking about is a Checkmate thing. I beleive all the stand up hulls do it. Just in my case, the boat likes very little trim till your over 40mph or it will bounce.
I,ve heard alot of others being the same. It just takes a little getting to know your boat and its not a issue.

The lab prop.
Thats why I had to laugh a little. Your spending all that money the cost of labbing a prop should be the least of your concerns. Hect the factory should throw 1 or 2 in the deal.:bigthumb:
