Just out of curiosity I was wondering which (I/O or outboard) is better to power a boat and why?

I would have to go with an O/B,
1, fewer parts to break
2, More interior room
3, able to raise the X demension with a $200 plate.
4, Lighter weight. Smaller tow vehical
5, Cost

Gus has some good points to support outboard guys. Some guys just have their preferences. I have a friend that bought a 32 Scarab I/O with no power and converted it to Twin 275's. He reconstructed the entire back of the boat and mounted the engines on brackets. He gained a real nice wrap around seat with a table and a sun deck
