Saw this on the OSO beautiful 30!!

Now they call them 30's because all the Mfgr's started counting the swim platform. So yes, it is a "true 28".

I would prefer twin engines in a 30' boat. It is nice looking though.

Totally disagree with this in a Checkmate. Why would twins be needed when one single can put the 30 footer over 100mph. No twin engine is needed in any Checkmate

isn't the 30 really only a 28 ??

I have been digging in this lately about when the time frame changed the 300. Yes the 300 is now made from a reworked 28 mold.

The early 300 was 30 foot without the platform. But Checkmate had to keep up with other boat companies and had to count the swim platform as footage.

My research so far comes up with this. The new 300 now has a notch in the back of the hull. I trace this back to the year of 2003. So I do belive the old 28 mold was reworked and a notch installed maybe in 2002.

I do know the Convincor 242 mold also became the 260 at one time

I agree with Red -- M/K at one time I would have sworn by twins but with the lighter hulls and the advancements that come along with them, I would rather have a single with 650 big boys and a single drive pushing me then twins with twice the headaches.

Also that my be a true 30' that swim platform is attached and not molded into the boat.

The swim platform being bolted on has nothing to do with determining the footage. All Convincors have a bolted on platform the ZT models are made into the boat. I don't know the exact year for the change when Checkmate included the swim platform as footage. But I do know for a fact that definitely 2003 models and up the platform was counted.

Really....??? Not questioning, but curious....

Red is just stating an opinion but if you look around all of your performance MFG's (Whats left of them) are using single power up to 30 foot boats. Reason -- 1- keeping the cost down --2 -- It is just not nec. to get to 75 to 80 where most of these guys are gettin you today with a stock boat.

I beleive the fastest 30' Mates are single BBCs not twins.

BR- The notch in the transom is an insert and not actually in the mold (I think).

a 300 with a stock 496 h.o. will run low 70s, which is pretty respectible. by staying with a single engine they can sell the boat much cheaper, insurance is cheaper, and maint. is cheaper. if you want to go faster you can modify or repower a single much cheaper and easily get 80+ out of the boat. a 300 with twins is pretty tight in the engine compartment making service a nightmare. the extra weight of twins also effects handling, the man i bought mine from said "they are like a fat kid on a tetter-totter,which ever side he is on is going down'. :D

I am talking I/O and Checkmates to get the record straight. From what I have studied and I have been doing this for awhile now. The boat they call the 300 Convicor now is a fast hull. Which was crafted from the early 28 mold and the notch was added.

From speeds posted by everybody I belive in my gatherings the newer notched 300 hull is just as fast as any Covincor made from 24 foot and up. For instance lets take Mkhammers 98 253 hull and my old 242 hull. I believe if you take a bone stock 496 425 hp engine and stick it in both boats the newer 300 will be just as fast.

The findings are with the basic 300 cabin with V berth bed and couches. And early model mates with the same cabin.

Gotcha, the 100mph mark in a single 30' I/O would take some serious 750+ HP to obtain though....

kunkel's marine had a 253 with a pro charged 572 in it. they put that engine in a 300 they had and it ran the same ,107 mph. the 300 is a very fast hull for its size.

Your way off brother try in the ball park of the 1000 hp range 750 will get you close to 90 if the torque numbers are high

You are correct. When Bill still owned the company you could actually get three different bottom configurations on the 300. The notch as shown on the Kunkles boat. The traditional bottom with just a small pad and a full bottom with no pad or notch. I'm pretty sure the full bottom with out pad or notch was used on the twin engine models. The boat in the add with just a stock 500 hp will only run in the high 60's.

The new 300 with a stock 525 merc. will run 80 with 4 people
