1975 Vmate restoration

I guess sunday is supposed to be the day that I get the boat flipped back over and on the trailer . I just need to get a few people over here to help with moving it out of the garage . I need to get the top back in the garage to be finished being painted . Im at the point though where I feel like putting it back on the trailer and just parking it till spring . Nothing has went right lately .......

Trailer is moved in the drive way and the cars all moved . Waiting on my brother inlaw and Nephews and brother and uncle , My dad and his friend to come lend a hand to carry the boat out of the garage and set the boat in the grass and than flip it back over and get it postioned back on the trailer . Than the top comes back in the garage ....

Looks great, I'm watching closely as we are restoring almost identical boats. I flipped mine over last weekend with two friends but I will definitely be looking for more help when it goes right side up. Keep going and kudos to your father.

I was gone all afternoon Down in the "D" at the tigers game .... Had a Great afternoon with 12 family members . Than to make the day even better I come in the house when I got home and walked into my Family room and these were sitting in front of my fireplace .... Uncle Tom came through again and Did a fantastic Job ....

All the tabs I've seen followed the angle of the hull... least that's how mine are setup on the convincor, my buddies stingray. I'm not saying it's wrong, I have no clue, just stating it because I'm wondering if there is a difference in setup for smaller outboard boats compared to the mid-size and larger inboard/outboards

This how they were mounted when they were installed when they were new . I know they are right Because I know the person that sold this boat new and he also installed them himself .... maybe he can shed some light o the subject ???

Trim Tab Set Up

The 15ft Checkmate that My Dear Friend William is Restoring I had Sold 40 years ago. All the Hi-Performance Checkmates that I Built and Sold from My Action Marine got Checkmate Trim Tabs, Double Ride Guide Steering, and a Kill Switch as Standard Equipment. The way I Set up the Trim Tabs on Williams 15ft Checkmate Improved the Handling in both Calm and Rough Water Conditions. They Also made the Checkmates Easer to Drive, many Times Eliminating the Tendency to Chine Walk and Allowing the Boat to Run Faster in all Conditions. This Set up gave the Driver the Ability to Balance the Boat at three points using just the End of the Tips of the Trim Tabs and the water coming off the Transom to Balance the Boat without Chine Walking and Enabling the Boat to Run Faster and Smoother. Some of You Might be Wondering if this same Set Up will work on Your Checkmates and the Answer is Yes. Checkmate Stopped Making there Trim Tabs many Years ago, But this Trim Tab Set Up can be Duplicated with any Good set of Trim Tabs that are about 12 inches Long and 10 inches Wide. The Proper Set Up would be to Mount the Trim Tab Backing Plate 3/8 of a inch from the side of the Strake and 1/2 inch off the Bottom of the Strake. Below are Pictures of a few Checkmates that I Built and Raced at the National Drag Boat Association Sanctioned 1/4 Mile Races. These Checkmates Ran in the 1/4 Mile Race From 74 MPH to 89 MPH. I Hope this Helped Answer The Question. Have a Great Weekend and Best Wishes Always Sammie Action Marine

It's so awesome that you're actually on here to answer the questions of why a boat was set up a certain way 40+ years ago lol.

Is that the preferred location for the smaller boats? My brother is looking at an enchanter right now that has no tabs at all on it, which probably would have been one of our first upgrades

Thank You William and Kyain

Thank You William and Kyain for Your Kind Words. I Also Want to Thank all the Checkmate Members on this Checkmate Forum who have Appreciated My Posts by Posting Your Kind Words of Appreciation and By Clicking Thanks. I Really Do Appreciate Your Thanks More than any of You Could Ever Know. To Answer Your Question Kyain the Answer is Yes. If You want all the Benefits I had Listed Above in My First Post to You and William, You Need to Install the Trim Tabs on Your Brothers Enchanter the same way they are on Williams 15ft Checkmate. The Instructions I have Posted are the Same on all these Kinds of Hi-Performance Boats from 13ft to 21ft and the Benefits will be the Same for all of Them. If You Look Closely to My 21ft Enchanter I/O that I Built in 1980 and Installed One of My Action Marine 466 CI 896 HP Duel Turbo Charged Big Block Racing Motors in it the Checkmate Trim Tabs are Installed the same way. I Drove My Checkmate Enchanter I/O at Mercury's Test Site and Ran 119 MPH. I Hope all of You Checkmate Members have a Great Weekend in Your Checkmates. Run Fast and Be Safe. Best Wishes to all of You Always Sammie Action Marine
