1987 STARFIRE

Looks good Dave! I knew you wouldn't be able to help yourself once you had it home:thumb: Did you clean out the interior yet and access the damage?

How long before it gets kicked out of the shop?

Haven't touched the inside yet, only screwed around for about an hour total. As far as the shop I'm sure my time is limited. We will see when the owner says to make it leave.

The boat cleaned up nice!!! Can you sand the top and just clearcoat it?

There's a lot of crazing in the gel on the top. I have sanded stbd top with 800 and 1200, its better but not great. I'll probably go back with the 800 and get a little more aggressive with it and see what happens. I don't need perfect but would like something nice looking.

We will just have to see how that goes... once you get into the thick of it and everything you are doing is perfect, you will revisit that comment:thumb:

I'm sure at some point in time it will be painted, it may even happen very soon. If I can get it cleaned up to where it looks nice, I'd rather run it for awhile and go back later and paint it. I'd hate to damage a new finish, when I can have an older more forgiving finish while I'm getting used to the boat.

Heres the crazing I was talking about first picture is port side, I haven't messed with that yet

this is of the stbd side I have messed with it a little, I want to go at it some more and see what I can get out of it.

Mine had some of that on the deck near the front of the bow opening, had some near the one cooler too. The spot by the cooler has not returned since the wetsand and buff job, the one in the front has but not as bad. I think the spots on mine may have been where a repair was blended though.

That came out nice Spencer, if I can get mine in that condition I will be happy. It would still probably get painted down the road but no reason to do it now if I can focus on other more serious matters.

I was able to start on the interior today, cleaned all the crap out

all in all it's pretty solid. Rotten under the seat base's, somebody had been there on the port side and most foam was gone and remaining was dry. Port stringer is solid, stbd stringer has some rot at the top. stbd foam is all there and wet in seat area but dry further up. All floor rot seems to be minimal on the port side and extends back a little further on stbd side. Core feels solid everywhere I have access to it. I think I may have gotten lucky but will find out with more demo.

Dave much sure you encapsulate the floor with glass and resin. Don't worry you can use polyester resin, OG isn't gonna be mad at ya!:poke:
