I am looking at two 22 convincors one is a 99 and the other is a 00-Both big block standad efi 454 motor. Please tell me about these boats -how do they ride? Any bad points? I am familiar with the 25's but never been in a 22. I will be using it on local lakes and rivers-My last boat was a 1995 24' Baja outlaw which I loved but want a bit smaller and feel this is a perfect boat for my needs. Also prices are 17-20K range does that seem fair if clean and maintained sub 400 hours. Thanks Joe

the 22 is I believe the same hull as a ZT240 molded vs bolted swim platform. it is a great boat for its size easy to trailer and rides very well in the moderate rough stuff. . Condition and how it was stored are always a big deal on Checkmates . The 22 's that I have noticed for sale over the years seem to be priced almost as much as the 25 's but I would guess Checkmate sold a lot more 25's over the years. Good luck with your search

PM RGP. He has one with a 350. He'd be able to you exactly how it rides. I had a 219 persuader with a 454 and it was super fast, but didn't ride or handle very good. The 22 convincer seems to have a deeper v then the 219 tho.

Thanks for the info appreciate it.
Yes the 22 is pretty deep V --I think 23 degree deadrise.
I will be looking very soon at them I am waiting for the storage facility to open due to the crazy deep snow pack this year in NY.
I will keep you posted and post pics if I buy. Also if anyone is selling a 22 or 240 or 242 for around $20,000 keep me in mind if not too far from NYS.

One more question--350 mag MPI 300HP or 454 MPI non mag 310HP
What would be your choice of the two in a 22. I only ask becaue a third boat just hit with a 350 mag so now I have 3 to choose from.
Diff in MPG - MPH -- longevity or general use in this boat.
If you book it out the 350 is a negative -$500 on value and would possibly hurt resale?

I have one that I have been quite pleased with. 2001 220 with a 350 Mag. she rides and handles great. being on the bay there are days where a slightly longer boat would benefit me better. but this thing is great for maneuverability. I personally would like a little more cruising speed. mine is only about 40-45 at 3100 rpm.

Sounds like it would be perfect for what I will do -day trips on the lake can handle day chop and boat wakes. 45 is not too bad at 3100.
Top speed would prob be 62 on GPS with that 350 mag mpi?

yeah mines closer to 68 on gps Bravo 1 22P. but that was on a very smooth day. handles mild chop and boat wake very well. yup 350 mag mpi. Straight thru exhaust is music to my ears as well.

Oh gotcha i was seeing if you were close i could have taken you out on mine so you could see how they handle. good luck in your shopping. let us know what you end up with.

I have a 97 220. I run 63 with a 23p at 5800. I hit the limiter all the time with a 454 carb. I love the boat. It is light and cuts the water like a larger boat. I might see a higher speed with everythng pulled out but not much. Soooooo with a 350???

Edit... 4800 rpm

I am having a VERY hard tme finding a boat.
I would love a 242. NONE around. closest was Michigan 11 hrs away
I may be a bit too early still ?? I even posted a wanted ad on Craigslist
Most stuff is beat up or way over priced ..Or believe it or not the people
don't send me pics or even try to make arrangments to se the boats
I have to keep following up --When I sell things I am usually very accommodating--OK enough ranting --hahhahaha

Thanks!

My feeling is that I'd rather drive 14 hours one way to get the "right" boat that meets my expectations rather than settling for a boat that is "good enough" that is only four hours away.

This boat for example: http://sandusky.craigslist.org/boa/4334604036.html

I like it a lot: Great graphics, solid windscreen, maybe offshore controls, C-Hawk trailer

However is it fuel injected, how many hours, rather have a 502.

I think the price tag of $25,500 is a little unreasonable and a firm price of $20k is more in line.
