24 Super: winter update

If you get the prop right and get over 90 are you going to be happy or are you likely to raise the boost and keep pushing?
Nah, he will keep on pushing. He has triple digits on his mind :eyecrazy:. I have seen the boat quite a few times and the pics don't do justice for the hardware that is on this boat :bigthumb:

:lol:I can't wait to show him how to drive that boat too!!!!!:poke:

Seriously, I can't wait to see that boat....It should be beautiful and a runner too.

Yeah, I'll keep pushing it, but to my knowledge the fastest anyone has gone in one of these old 24/7 hulls without killing themselves is 102mph. I don't think it has anything past 92 without a nose cone. Jason says thats about as fast as a non-coned bravo lower gets, then it hits a wall. From everything Kunkels has told me it should have enough motor to get to tripple digits though.

Turning 5600 I'm pretty sure it was about 8psi before the carb, but at the time I was really was watching the other gauges and busy driving/rasing the tabs/playing with the trim to see if it had anything left and only glanced at the boost- next time I'll make sure to note it. Its probably actually a 5-6psi pulley and the before carb reading is high- I know that we can safely run more boost.

I'm going to buy a 29 Mirage +, which is actually 30.5 true pitch, and get a baseline before having BBlades pitch it up. Brett says he can, but they have to do it by hand.. I'm afraid that its gonna be tough to get a prop steep enough that also behaves as well on this hull as a Mirage. I don't know of any other big dia bow lifters other than the Mirage props.

With a 31P prop and 6K rev limiter, it should be at 100 with the slip numbers we're seeing now. I hope that the cone will cut down on the slip a little and with pitching the new prop closer to 32, we can keep the revs under 6K... who knows, but it should be fun either way!

wanna borrow a 1.36 drive with a cone on it you wouldnt have to change props then bring it down next weekend maybe we could do a nascar style change in the parking lot for some quick testing

Thanks for the offers, but I'll do somthing pretty soon... hate to cone the bravo just to end up replacing it with an XR.

If it looks like its gonna be a while, I'll go ahead and cone my bravo.

I actually was planning on running the 21 down at Cesars.. Byron is going to have his Donzi 22 there and it'd be alot of fun to run em. Might take the 24, hell I don't know..

I'll put up some the pics I have of it that I finally got off my phone:

On our way to LC for the shakedown run:

I just washed the boat for the first time since its been together yesterday.. had to get my old truck in the pics too. I love that truck.. rusty back bumper and all:D

Jason checked the valvetrain all over- nothing hurt and everything else good. Also, he took care of some odds and ends. Installed a restrictor in the t-stat housing.. I might have to go a little smaller to get some heat in it, but don't know yet. Probably have a little more tweeking to do, but I figure I might run it at Cesars next weekend since I'd like to get the mechanicals worked out before winter hits.

Also, talking to Harold yesterday- he said its got the 5psi pulley on it. They guy that ran this blower before kept blowing up drives with the 7psi pulley.

Figure another winter has passed... the 24 was away for a while at Adam Shook's place for the stereo we worked out a deal on last year, then over to Kevin Brown's for filling the push button start hole.

I ended up not liking where it was at made me have to watch where I brace my knees in rough stuff... so it had to go. I got enough on my plate running her hard without that distraction. Also, its easy enough to reach the key on the side of the dash.

I just got done with some stuff on the old truck two weeks ago, so thats what I've been doing.

Replaced the rusty rear bumper with a new oem piece and upgraded the rear brakes with larger wheel cylinders from a (cough) Chevy 1 ton. That made a big difference in overall braking. I went from 7/8" pistions to 1 3/16" in the rear. I already have upgraded fronts, but before this, they did most the stopping. Installed Monroe gas magnums all around. I didn't think that the shocks would make that big of a difference, but they did improve the ride. Its pretty firm, but more controlled.. I like it.

Reason I decided to do all that was because of installing a gooseneck hitch. I had one in my 05, but sold it last year- so now the 98 is the full time tow pig. I got ahold of a used B+W hitch from a friend and bought a Valley trailer plug for in the bed. Those premade weather tight harnesses sure beat making your own wiring for the bed.. worth every penny.

Here is it with and without the cap:

Here is the hitch and the trailer connector installed in the bed, then the bedliner dropped in and cut out for everything:

I wanted to b able to keep the bed covered and still pull, so I installed a tonneau. I like the old school snap kind (imagine that) so I got a extang black max. Its actually a really nice piece for the $.

Nice looking older dodge. Is it a cummins or a gasser?

98.5 24v Cummins.. I did a bunch to it about 4-5 years ago. Love that old truck. Gets 18.5mpg pulling my 24Super down to Cumberland and back. 22 empty.

Actually after pulling a 20K load with it, I decided to install a manifold and turbine housing blanket which should keep the heat inside the exhaust where it can get that turbo spinning a little sooner, I hope. Every little bit will help with the 5speed and the big exhaust housing on the turbo I'm currently running. She don't light up till 1700-1800 rpms, so you gotta wind her out for the big jump from 3rd to 4th when pulling heavy.

So, I'm done with the truck for now and just started working on the boat.

First order of business was ordering a oil t-stat from CP since my oil temps
were way too low last fall. I was checking out the oil routing and I'd have
routed the oil differently... it went from the block to the cooler, then to
the filter, back to the block.
The major problem (besides cold oil being harder to filter) is my temp
sensor is in the oil filter housing.. so it was reading the oil temp after
being cooled. I plan on routing it to the filter first, then t-stat, then
cooler, back to the block.

It also was traveling the same direction as the water, so cooling wasn't
quite as efficent as it could have been- in theroy. Not an issue with this
motor.

I really wanted to mount it on the motor, but it was going to be a pia to
fit it somwhere and be able to plumb it cleanly. So it had to go on the
transom. I made a bracket out of scrap stainless.. worked well enough:

I gotta start saving up for Areoquip socketless fittings and hose (big $$).
I'm planning on -10 size oil lines.. bigger is a waste, and I'm not sure -8 is
big enough. I don't trust cheaper push lock stuff, so pony up I guess.....

Somewhere between getting all the work done on it and moving stuff in
and out of the boat, I lost my anchor light. I've been wanting to get a
led one, so I can leave it on all night while sleeping and not kill a battery.

I bought an Attwood that fits 95% of all bases and of course mine is
one of the 5% it doesn't fit. So got new base too:

The led light is pretty nice and works better in the new base:

The bow light had a small crack in the cover, so it was on the list too.

I bought a led one that I've thought might look good on it:
