71 mx-15 restoration and build

I was thinking about it to save some money and get it on the water faster. But I think all the spots where I sanded through the jell coat wouldn't look so good. I could go for the rat rod look lol. Like here on the slash well.

Maybe you could tape off the splash well and do it in a solid color, say black or purple.

Jettmate I was thinking about that. Redstrat sent me a link to a forum on Iboat about restoring fixing and matching jellcoat really doesn't seem that hard. Looked at jellcoat at us composites and it's kinda cheep compared to paint. so maybe I will try to go with jell. But there's paint on the bottom of my boat so I would have to get it off and really clean for jell to work. From my understanding but it's getting close to that time. Thinking I may try a small part with jell to try it out.

If you take a garden hose with the nozzle off and let the water flow evenly over the surface it will give you an idea what it will look like.

Needs a old Merc . Just my opinion . Checkmates look sweet with a inline six ...

I know will but I keep on coming up with the evinrude's. I got this boat for 200 can't go wrong the motor is 8 years newer and 15 hp more. Then the one I was planing on using. Wish I had the money of an inline iv been looking for one. They do look sick.

I'm a proponent of the " use what you got" philosophy. Hook up a battery, crank it over and check the compression before you get in to deep. Father's day is coming. You might want to get yours something special this year. I thought I had a bad case of CM fever. :poke:

Mine had a 115 Rude of the same vintage on it last year that it handled pretty well. You shouldn't have a problem.

Lots of Youtube vids of 15's with I6 and V6 150 Mercs so the 140 shouldn't be an issue.

Nice Build. I don't think too much motor is a problem. If you want to part it out, Im looking for a stern light plug/socket that is 4.5" long for my Checkmate Enticer. All the replacements are too small and I don't want to drill any more holes in the hull. If the parts boat has one that can be made useable I'll buy it if it's for sale.. Thanks, Scott

Works been super busy haven't had much time to work on the boat. But I got my steering in place the boat that I got with the evinrude 125 I was going to uses had a zero feedback on it. Would really of liked to use a double cable setup but money is getting tight and would like the boat in the water this summer. I can alway go back and put a double cable on it later.

Coming along nicely. I like that wheel. How many inches is it? What brand and how much? Was thinking about getting something new for my boat. Want a smaller diameter wheel though.

Thanks jetmate. Not to sure on the make. It came off of the boat that I was going to use the motor from till I got this new motor. It says it's made in Italy and 13" no makers name on it. I like it also. Thought it was a good find on a free boat.

Got my transom plate back from the welder today. Blocked it up 2.5" hope it's right. Motor is bolted on I think it looks really sweet! I know I know it's not black. I'm hoping I'm ready for summer still have some time.

Pretty sure that's either a Momo or an Isotta steering wheel --- possibly a Miglia if it came off a chriscraft.
