Awesome! That boat came out perfect :thumb:

Thanks to everyone for all the great comments. In reality I have never done anything that came out perfect. But at 57 years old, I'm OK with that. Here are a couple of pics of what I stuffed under the bow. I struggled with where to put all the Coast Guard required items in a 16' boat. I made a snap in compartment between the braces for fenders and the throw cushion. There is a shot of a nice small fuse box I found. I also made a sling for the paddle so it wouldn't bang around. The handle snaps under the dash. I don't know how you guys do it with bow-riders.

Red, I am so disappointed. How could you not use the pink blankie with teddys for your seats... Tisk Tisk.

LoL Really, you have done an amazing job on that MX.

Are we rolling down the river yet?

Yep, I'm headed out to the Cape for a couple of days (a planned vacation). I'm not ready to trailer it that far and drop it in the ocean. With only three hours on the clock she'll have to wait till I get home. :brickwall:

My dad used to take me fishing and boating on Long pond when I was a kid ----- beautiful place with great memories :)

Mark, I too am struggling with what to do about accessory stowage --- my fenders and life jackets are the issue with me, you've just given me a couple of nice ideas to think about --- thanks much :thumb:

Hope you have a great time down the Cape {well it's down from my location} ---- make sure to eat plenty of lobsta and REAL clam chowda

WOW:bigthumb:
I have learned so much from this build, but little gun shy to post my build when I do it after looking at yours.
TUFF build to match.

This aint no competition. There is only one guy I compete with and he gets uglier every morning ( I only see him while shaving). For me it's about sharing ideas and learning from each other. I've gained far more knowledge from reading others threads than I have contributed. I learned years ago from playing guitar that someone who's only been playing a short while can still teach me something simply because I can't think of every possible way to play the instrument. Who can? Come on, show us what you've been up to. I save my judgement for those that talk and don't do. Anyone that gives thought and execution to improving these old boats has my respect, even if they are udder failures (even more respect if they are). :bigthumb:

My wife and I got the boat in the water yesterday with disappointing results. She started hard and as soon as I got her on plane she started to drop cylinders. I now think I have an ignition problem I have to chase down. It looks like I'll need to invest in a multimeter with DVA. I've read a lot about these early electronic (Prestolite) systems. Time to put it into practice. 20 minutes in the water. :brickwall: My goal is to get 10 hours on this motor before I put it up for winter. Wish me luck.
On the positive side, my wife told me on the way home not to worry. "If this motor gives you too much trouble we'll just have to save up for a new one." She's a good girl. :thumb:

For insurance or resale, what would this boat be worth???

I've save all my receipts, but I haven't had the courage to add them up yet. Let's see if I can get this motor to rock and then maybe you guys can tell me what you think it's worth. I'm still hoping to get the windshield on and make a cover before winter. It will never sit outside but I need to get it in a covered shed so my shop is open for other projects.

I started to sort out my ignition foibles today. These motors are known to have weak spade connections off the stator. Sure enough I peeled back the insulation on cylinder #1 and the connector feel off in my hand. Fingers crossed, hope I have it fixed.

I think I have my power loss issue figured out. After thought and research I started thinking that my new Moeller tank with an EPA approved gas cap was not venting properly. I contacted the company and they sent me a new cap. Comparing the two caps, the replacement deffinatly allows air in with less negative pressure. This weekend looks good for more testing. I sent my windshield trim off to my aluminum welder to fill all the original rivet holes. The old windshield cracked at every rivet. After the holes are filled I will file, sand and buff the trim and silicon the new windshield into the track. A lot of wind last weekend tore the cover off my 72 MX-16. It was the first time I saw the inside of the boat in two years. I took a couple of pics for fun. I'm happy to say that after 7 years this boat was dry as a bone and still in the shape it was when it was given to me. Deffinatly will need a transom but the core looks solid. I went for the $30 cover. Probably wont open it up for another couple of years. I gotta start workin on the house. :shakehead:
