Beckmate popularity

According to Professional Boat Sales -- The baja gang that has invaded the checkmate factory have taken over the company. This guy Reynolds is the last word on hulls and interiors. Smith is the last word on everything. Need I say more -- As time goes by the two names will be drawn closer and closer together no matter if we like it or not.
Look at the color schemes comming out of the factory on all these boats -- Baja all the way. I call them the flashy and fruity gang. A man's boat it certainly is not.
I just told the dealer I had no interest in buying and paying 100,000.00 dollars for what amounts to a 22 foot boat and a two foot swim platform, when all was said and done with a name (checkmate) that has decided to jump in bed with the boat whore of the 20th century. Sorry guys it's a pulsare or nothing for me it is the only real checkmate left that these guys have not gotten there hands on. At least as far as I can see.

The problem is the, new to Checkmate, buyer is probably not going to realize he is buying a Beckmate and the factory and sales force sure is going to enlighten him.

Even if I did like the beckmates, it would be a cold day in hell before I spent $100k on a boat that did not cruse atleast at 100mph. I would much rather have something that if I bumped the dock(knock on wood, I have not....yet), I would not cry about it either.

So a old pre-smith mate here also!

Same here pre smith all the way. I like the older checkmate versions, but that's just my opinion.

Unfortunately, I guess for some, at this point, this has become more about the principal, than it is about anything to do with the boats themselves.

But the reality is, that not every owner or prospective buyer is a loyal "die-hard", to Checkmate as a brand.

Some people instead, are just looking for a nice ride.

So, go old, go new, or with whatever floats your boat. :)

With the reality of the current economy, Checkmate needs to reach out to as many buyers as they can to survive. If that means attracting past Baja customers over to the Beckmates; so be it. The bottom line is that Checkmate still builds a great boat at a reasonable price; whether it be a retired Baja Mold or a Classic Checkmate Mold. If you were in the market to buy a New boat, Checkmate now gives you the option to go either way. They still have their classic Convincor, Pulsare and ZT lineup or you could choose from their new SFX or ZT "Beckmate" boats. I'm sure that any past Baja owner who purchases a new Beckmate will be pleased to see the quality of workmanship that is coming out of the Checkmate factory compared to what they bought years ago with Baja! We should all be greatful the Checkmate is still here building boats for us to buy, whether it be brand new...or preloved and passed down from another Checkmate fanatic!:thumb:

There is an old saying--

Don't ever buy the mot expensive house on the block.
My point being THIS -- If you are some where in the middle range and you are going to hook something to your belt look up not down. This was definately down. I am sure there are a dozen molds out there that checkmate could have put there brand name on if they felt expansion was due to stay in this business in this market.

I will tell you this there are at least a dozen or so center console "quality boats" out there -- I did not see any of them run out to grab that mold. Once again my point is and what this saying--
You put Lipstick on a pig even if it's the best lipstick money can buy underneath you still got a pig.
Jup as far as the Convincor and some of the ZT models they my have a C/M mold but they sure have a baja interior.:shakehead:

I was just curious as to how well they are being recieved. I know the general idea with people who use these boards is that most people don't like them. If the Beckmates work to bring in more customers than thats great. If the Beckmates don't sell, I hope its something checkmate can abandon without to much damage to the company itself, and return to just making the older style mates. Right now it seems like the beckmates are an experiment. I was wondering how it was turning out for them.

it has been well noted that the true checkmate people don't like beckmates.with that being said,it is not likely for checkmate to have re-peat customers.that leaves new customers to make them successfull in a very tight market.the baja like interior and graphics as well as the old baja molds are not enough to draw in business.just my opinion.

Hey -- If it brings checkmate more business and keeps them in the black who am I to say they should go in a different direction or they should have stayed the course with the original product lline. What counts in the end is simple it's whatever floats your boat.
The changes that have come outside the pulsare do not do it for me, so this is a lost sale but thats not to say for every Anthony there are five other guys that do like the changes and are ordering and buying right now. I wish them nothing but the best of luck and success in the future.:thumb:

You have a classic example of a boat company changing a boat. Well talk about taking what was a legend and turing it into a flop. Your 21 Superboat is and will forever be the 911 porsche tured into who the hell knows what:sick:

hey check , i have had a few 911 's in the past few years and when the water cooled 996 replaced the air cooled 993 you would have thought the world was ending , my point is i understand where everyone is coming from, but checkmate will still build whatever coombs mold they have. it sucks for all of us that a 22 ft 600 merc engine boat costs 100k .Time will tell about the Beckmates , but i dont think many new boats are being sold anywhere. I cant think of a better group of owners than Checkmate owners and i think your all going to welcome any beckmate owner at the dock wnen you see one , im willing to have a beer on a beckmate.....as long as the owner buys the first round...

I guess people will vote with their wallets. I know the industry is in terrible shape and I'm sure things are tight at CM but it would be cool to see an origional new design in the CM style come out of Checkmate Marine. A clean sheet 36' Convincor would be cool. Or maybe a cut down low profile 21' Pulsare.

I was looking at the pixs coming out of the Miami Boat Show today. There were some incredible boats being displayed. Even though I admire these ultra high end boats........how many people can really afford them? I never will be. Plus, to me a lot of these designs just don't look practical to the average joe blow weekend boater. This is why I think Cmate and a few other builders will be sitting pretty when the market does return. CM makes a well built boat, that is unique and runs great, and is affordable to the average person. I hope Cm Marine keeps working on updating the current Cm models, keeps the prices down and hopefully introduces a few new clean sheet models.
