CHECKMATE OWNERS RALLY 2014

Well I don't get much better than a mile a gallon. And sling I dont think 80 and 6000 rpm for a hundred miles is a good idea. Unless u want to pull me back. Lol. Its a little different at kinkaid when I only gotta go back 8 miles to the ramp. Im gonna try to go but not puttin my name on the list yet.

You will be fine . I hope you can make it.

Being a small boat guy wanting a big boat, the fuel costs are scaring me. I've run 2/3 of Cumberland in my crazy inefficient 2.5L EFI at about 40 - 50 mph and don't think twice. I put the hammer down and don't think about the costs but if I was getting 1 mpg @ $5.00/gallon my slow math is telling me a 100 mile trip is $500. Someone double check my math.

Do I need a big boat with a couple of OPTIS? Doesn't Wildman have one for sale?

Where are most getting rooms to stay in? I'm thinking I should make a reservation but there are several places even under the Grinder site and I've never been to Cumberland so I'm not really sure how close it all is. Will most people be leaving the boats in the water over night or do you pull them and store on the trailer?

Most of us stay at Grider and leave the boats in a covered slip. You can pull the boat in and out each day but the parking at the ramp is pretty full due to many cars parked there for the seasonal slip folks staying there. The resort and ramp is on a cliffside(beautiful) and I was lucky to find 1 parking spot open when we arrived on. Thurs. morning. They also have a vacant lot about a mile down the street for you to drop the trailer at also . Grider is the furthest resort south and then State dock and Jamestown are north of Grider maybe 7 miles or so. We ended up booking our reservation at State Dock this year to try a new place and hopefully see more of the north end of the lake . Hope to see ya there.

I wouldn't worry about that. I make the run from one end of the lake to the other and back (approx 120-130 miles) just about every weekend I am down at Cumberland, usually two times a month or so. I have a 253 with a carb'd 454 and cruising at about 40-42mph, with the occasional wide open run, I usually burn about 35-40 gallons is all. Now, I don't do much running when I get down to the dam, maybe a little cruise to grider or state dock for some grub, but I still don't think thats too hateful. And when I get my new Procharged motor in, I don't think it will do a whole lot worse since I will be spinning a much bigger prop, my rpm's at those 40-45mph cruising speeds will be a lot lower.

How fast does everyone run? Are there fuel stops?

There are tons of fuel stops. On a run from the dam to Burnside, you will pass 4 marinas that are right on the main part of the lake, Jamestown, State Dock, Conley Bottom and Burnside. There are aslo a few other just a quick trip up one of the creeks off the main lake, Grider Hill, Beaver Creek and Lees Ford. The longest distance you will run without being near fuel is between State Dock/Jamestown and Conley Bottom, and that run is about 22 miles. So you should be fine. Here is chart that shows the distances between the marinas, and the dam.

Here is a link to a larger PDF of that: http://lakecumberland.com/forum/images/lake_distances.pdf

GHM- Grider Hill
BCM- Beaver Creek
SD/JDM- State Dock/ Jamestown (2 marinas in the same cove)
Ali I, Ali II- Aligator 1 and Aligator 2
CBM- Conley Bottom
LFM- Lees Ford
BRM- Burnside Marina

This is also a good gauge of where you might want to stay knowing that most of the activities are based out of Grider Hill.

Thanks. Im sure one fuel stop will be sufficient. Maybe its a little more than a mile a gallon. But I know at tablerock I make a 30 mile run to have lunch and 30 back and I used 3/4 tank before I know it. I usually run 45-50 right where I can start to trim it up a little.

Not to Jack up The thread but I am sure mine gets better fuel mileage after the procharger @cruise speed . :bigthumb:

Hey Corey do you know when they are bringing the lake level back up?

Not sure if they are going to. There was a discovery of an endangered fish species up the Cumberland River and they are afraid if they raise the level back up to normal that it will hurt the fishes living environment.

No kidding.... Its a damn minnow. This Obama government is the only government I know that is trying to save a fish from too much water....

Amazing, I was really looking forward to seeing it up all the way because I have never been there when it was up all the way.

That's fricken crazy. Honestly what impact would it have on the environment if this breed of fish didn't survive in this body of water.:brickwall:

I'm usually a person that is all about conserving our natural resources, including wildlife. Mostly because I want the species to stick around so I can hunt them and eat them. However in this case I know it would have zero effect on the local environment considering the fact that the Cumberland River was dammed up in 1952 forming Lake Cumberland and this little pain in the ass fish went away then and hasn't been seen in the area until seven years ago when the water level was lowered for dam repair, and we survived just fine without the Duskytail Darter.

I'm going to guess that sometime in mid-summer they will give the go ahead to raise the level back to normal.
