CT RIVER CHECKMATE "EVENT"

We thought about giving it a try further south but decided to cut our losses and head home. From where we were standing it looked hopeless. There were literally five or more large hunks of lumber visible floating by at any given time and even a couple big trees going by, still complete with branches and green leaves flapping in the breeze. Glad to hear that you had a good time though, we will be back!!

3 day outing

I did Saturday,Sunday and Monday on the River, never going farther North on Sunday then Rocky Hill because of floating lumber, but noticed bellow Middletown it was better,so boated up to there on Monday!!! It looks as if the price of gas is keeping many people off the water because it was a beautiful weekend ,even on Monday after the morning showers!!! I did bend my 26 Bravo 1 Lab Prop coming out of Hamburg Cove, because it looks as if a marker for a rock has moved during the winter months, but otherwise it was fantastic boating!!!

Ct River

Its another weekend and I plan on going on the River tomorrow ans Sunday, weather permitting,is anyone else coming out??????

No can do this weekend either. Too much work piling up. This is pretty much life as usual for me, but I will be out there as often as I can. Have I ever told you guys that self employment sucks?

Wash Out

Well fellow Maters, this last weekend was a wash out so will have to try it out Father's Day weekend with great weather forecast so far,but nothing is for certain these days!!!Hope to hear from anyone else maybe planning to go out this coming weekend!!!

Maybe

Well its suppose to be only a chance of showers this weekend so I am going out on the River both Saturday and Sunday!!! If anyone else is going out please blog it and maybe we can hook up for a cruise!!!

Saturday

Wow,what a fantastic day yesterday was, especially since my 20 month old grandson went on a 1st cruise on his Checkmate Convincor with me!!! It will be a day to remember but to be matched today with the cruise to be taken on the Convicor by my 19th Happy Birthday grand daughter Nickie, with lunch at The Blue Oar!!! I hope to run into one of You guys out there today!!!

Fantastic Weekend

Well,I am a little late in reporting what a fantastic weekend it was, with lots more boaters on the river,so boating is beginning!!!! Sunday there were at least 30 boats anchored on the north side of Gildersleeve Island, including some hot jet boaters, but I think I was the only Checkmate there!!!

Hey Franz,
I have only been on the river a few times in late october. How tough is the enforcement out there during the summer months? I have yet to see a patrol late in the season.
Its Not that I am reckless or anything, but I dont want to be hauled in if I have a beer or maybe open her up for a stretch. (HA!.. fast boats and beer I must be looking for trouble :0)

The Law

The DEP has been scarce on the River, but the local police are in a few towns on the river!!! If your caught with a beer they might give You a breathalizer test, but there are many places on the River You can put the pedal to the metal!!! Knowing the River and knowing the police boats helps a lot but they have not been out in force so far this summer!!! If your goiung out this Sunday let me know so we can hook up!!!

Sunday June 26th

That was one of the busiest weekends on the River this year, with no room for parking at the Haddam Meadows launch area because of a bass tournament,so had to launch at Salmon River which was also packed tight!!! There were at least 40 or so boats tied up and anchored at Gildersleeve Island but with high water and a fast current, along with cool water, going wading was out of the question!!!! I am going out all three days this weekend and hope to run into some of You guys!!!!

Once again, no can do. Gonna be in the shop painting a truck tomorrow and working on the Convincor on Monday. I discovered evidence of water in the outdrive, not much but I want to check into it and fix a few small things. This summer is off to a slow start for me but I'll get there. Went once a few weeks ago on a weekday, but other than that, more dreaming about boating than doing it so far.

4th Weekend

Saturday was a fantastic day spent most of the day at Gildersleeve Island on the River in between early morning cruise, then was rained out on Sunday!!! On the 4th cruised to Hamburg Cove then back up to Gildersleeve running into 4 different Checkmates on the prowl, but by the weather forecast next week will be a fantastic weekend so lets get out on the River and hook up!!!

Other Checkmates

This last weekend of the 9th of July, was fantastic weather wise both Saturday and Sunday with about 5 Checkmates spotted on the Connecticut River on the 2 days!!!! This coming weekend is suppose to be another great weekend with a party on Gildersleeve Island before the portland Fireworks disply,so I hope all you Maters can make it for a good time!!!

Pig Roast on Gildersleeve Island

To all the Checkmater's on the Ct. River!!!!! Saturday,July 16th there is going to be a pre-fireworks party at the head of Gildersleeve Island,so come join the fun and wade in the water with the rest of the boaters enjoying the day!!!

Wheres a good launch ? Haddam Meadows near steel bridge?Gildersleeve is In Middletown?

If you are refering to the Arrigonni or Portland Bridge in Middletown as the "steel bridge", you are several miles north of Haddam Meadows by car.

Haddam Meadows is a decent place to launch and is free, but it can get busy and as with most free launches, you get some of the "less experienced crowd" ;). There are private marinas in Portand just south of Gildersleve that will run you $15 -$20 to launch.

Have fun, maybe I'll see you out there. :surf:

From S. Windsor, why not launch in East Hartford? I launch there and I live in Enfield. It's a decent launch, nice parking lot and it's watched by rangers. Out of towners pay $15 or you can get a season pass for $40 from the town.
