HOW FAST IS YOUR CHECKMATE? EVERYONE!

79 Predictor, Johnson 200hp. 59 mph with tow/ski prop. I'm told 70's with a performance prop. I believe it! She's got plenty of juice.

Don't know yet. The ole gal can't seem to get her fat but out of the water yet.
I will know how fast eventually. She can't keep this up forever.

It hit 64.0 on GPS with just over 1/4 thank of fuel and one passenger. This is turning an untouched bravo 1 24 pitch 4 blade at 4700 RPM with a 390 HP 502 in my 253.

20' 300xs

89.6 GPS. Cant crack 90mph.
300xs Sportmaster, 27p Trophy, 6" set back Detwiller lift to the top, 1/8th tank gas, 1 person.

Tried a Chopper prop, new Bravo 1 XS 28p prop and still no faster than the trusted Trophy.

Try farting. Extra propulsion might not break 90 but you'll feel better about it.
Or so I'm told.
And then you can lie about 2 things. "Yes I did, No I didn't".

RPM's?

Your speed issue is in your setback. You will need more than 6" of setback to get the Pulsare to fly! 6-8" more setback will put you into the mid 90's with your current prop setup...

Top Speed

73 mph (gps) ,5300rpm, medium load, 508hp 454 (dyno). Still playing with props, ran this speed with a 24p 3blade, gonna try a 25p mirage tomorrow, want to hold the r's down a little more.

I tested a couple other props a couple of weeks ago. Still back to the Trophy 24 as being the fastest:

Previous best with that prop was 69.5 mph. Tried a 24 Chopper with not such good results and a 27 Mirage that ran about 1 mph slower and too low on the rpm.

Had mine out yesterday and got 64 at 4700 ish with a 23p Mirage Plus. I think that's all she has with the stock set up. I'm shooting for mid 70's with a built motor. Heard guys were getting low 70's with heads and intakes. I'm gonna try and find some posts about small block builds and see what people might recommend for the boat.

On a budget it's hard to beat a set of Vortec heads and the appropriate intake to work in a standard small block. If you can locate one of the short alpha lowers that's good for some mph too.

My outboard buddy was just telling me about those short Alphas today actually. Same basic idea as his jackplate right? Less stuff in the water. I'll have to see what I can find out about them. What do you think about AFR heads?

Ive owned and raced with several sets of AFR heads. My best ever run was a 8.90 @ 152 MPH in a 4000 LB ( !!! ) car with a small block ford and 225 AFR's.

Biggest problem with any good heads on a boat isnt the heads or the motor itself. Its the crap exhaust system they dump into.

That's FAST!! I have heard good things about them. That's the first thing I thought of was the restrictive blocky exaust manifolds. I found a few companys that make what I'll call upside down shortys and the cheapest ones were a thousand bucks!!! The were very shiny but didn't say stainless. The ones that did say stainless from another company were 2300. What do you do?? Can't build a good breathing motor and have it clogged up at the exhaust end. :( Where would be a good place to look for those short Alpha lowers? Or would it be the entire Alpha drive itself that's short? Thank's guys!!

If you're lucky you may find somebody parting with a shorty lower but it's pretty rare to see them on the market. You may try searcing on OSO for one. I may be incorrect but I don't think shortys have any real benefits on stock power.
