Looking at a mint condition 2000 - 259 conv

Just curious about how the boat handles 2-4 footers and if the 7.4 (non mag) engine is going to be enough to get me to 60ish...

If this had the Mag, i would have bought it a month ago, just on the fence about it. How does this hull compare to the baja 272.

Opinions wanted!!! Thanks

If it's in mint condition, the price is right, and you have the money to spend; buy it. I wouldn't worry too much about the "magnum" 7.4 L is plenty of displacement. Give a little more info and I'm sure Big Red and others will way in. I'm an outboard guy and very new to I/O's; couldn't give you a firm thumbs up on the Convincers potential performance.

BTW Being a Checkmate forum any references to BaHAHA's will get you alot of these:rolleyes: Don't want to offend the new guy...... :D

The Red will have the best advice but from my perspective it's a great boat and will serve you well if you run places with some chop. It's a great hull design, 24 degree deadrise (i think) which cuts the waves nicely. the mag is no biggie like hickory said, but you probably won't see 60 easily until you put more smoke in the motor. I do wince when a boat is advertised as 'mint'. No boat, other than a new one off the showroom floor is mint, so be careful when buying. Compared to a baha of the same vintage? No comparison in quality of build, 'nuf said.

The 259 is a bit different then the 251 but not much.
I have a 251 and 2-4 ft chop is my normal conditions. The boat does great for its size. Your speed and driving can influence it for the better or worse. The faster you skip across the easier on the landings. The slower the more you get beat and will be tighten screws when you get home. In over 3 throttle control helps with getting you in and out smoothly, just have to watch and adjust to what you see coming. Takes a little seat time to know your boat.

Your gonna be pushing real hard for 60 with the 310-350hp motor, 55 is what I would expect.

Whats a baja;)

I've had 2 of them. It will be able to run near WOT in 2-4'ers.

Can't really compare it to a 272 baja. Not apples to apples. The checkmate 259 is alot lighter and narrower. The 259 is better in all aspects, except one depending on how you look at it, and that is the fact that it is more of a "drivers" boat then the baja. A positive for me because it is way more fun then a baja 272. Faster and more responsive handling.

the baja will be slower and worth less than the 259 both about the same size as they include the swim platform in the 272 lenth so more of a 25 as well...look for upper 50's but can build that for more speed build a clone HP500 and roll on !!!

I have looked at 15 boats all listed as mint and wanted TOP dollar. All were faded, ripped or just not clean.. Driving all over NY state, ohio and penn. My buddy has a mint condition 232, which never sees the sun, unless its in the water for the weekends, i mean look factory, so i have very high standards when looking.

So after driving 6 hours to look at this one my hopes were very very very low. after seeing junk after junk.

As soon as we round the bend I can see it and its glowing clean! Outside gel coat is mint, couple nicks and rubs on the rub rail thats it. Get out of the car it gets better, out drive looks perfect. moment of truth, climb up the latter and the inside smells like moth balls, but is near mint condition, only one small crack on the very top of the sun pad.

Take her to the lake, fire her up and bought it on the spot.. Got it for a great price and she was just what i was looking for! Ran her all weekend, need a lot more seat time to get used to it, but she ran great even with the two pregnant wives weighing us down!!

Needless to say, i will be sticking around this forum now! Sorry guys your stuck with me.. I already have a list of questions about her!!!

Yeah it was a great weekend, besides driving 14 hours all over NYS.. Didn't have the GPS with me today when we were out, but the dream-o-meter was saying 59-60 with a full tank of gas and four people in the boat.

But i was driving with the tab down a lot to smooth the ride, with the two wives pregnant they didn't want any bumps!! I really got to just get more seat time and get a feel for the boat, as with out a good amount of trim tabs down she wanted to just hop along. So my guess is i gotta trim the drive up and get on her a bit more.. just would rather learn a bit more with just the guys before bouncing the wife out of the boat!

Very nice looking boat man, i just picked up a 95 253 Convincor the other week with the 7.4 L (non-mag). With 3 people and full tank of gas i saw 55GPS with a 21P prop. Looking at getting a different prop maybe in the near future and over winter doing a mild build to the motor. I am going to post up some new pics tonight!
