SCT's 1969 Checkmate V191 Raceboat restoration.

Wet sanding is done and buffing will hopefully be complete today! Then just have to find the time to pick her up.:thumb:

Progress?

After 4 yrs, the paint is done and she’s home in NC. At this rate I figure it will be done for the 2024 CM Rally....:bounce:

I did install a some parts on it the last few nights. The reproduction CM emblems look great!

Grinding 50 yr old carpet glue and fiberglass in 95’ NC heat just sucks....
I used to be able to roll in fiberglass and not even get itchy, not anymore....ugh.

The things we do for our passions.

On the bright side, there is a lot of light at the end of the tunnel and all of it is blinding, reflecting off that metalflake.

Much easier to be motivated when you are so close. shortly you will be walking on new flooring in that Classic and unique, one of a kind raceboat.

Did you already tells us what you are laying down? Carpet or something else?

It’s ugly but it’s going back to the original red carpeting. As best as I can tell, it came that way from the factory.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Mr. Karzrus!

Well, I dodged a bullet! Under the back deck, there was one soft spot where the battery box had set. I kept on going back in forth about wether to cut it open and replace that section or half ass it and glass over it and then make a large wooden battery box tray over top that section. Part of me was worried about cutting it open and finding a can of worms......rotten stringer/core/transom. Well thank God, I just found a little staining on top of the stringer but everything was solid!👍

You're so lucky you can't lose now.

Maybe you should buy lottery tickets, go sky diving or play Russian roulette.

Just happy that you had good news.

Making a little bit of progress this last week. Got the floor patched in and resealed, carpet 90% installed, the fuel tank polished up and mounted along with the battery boxes. By god, if I keep this progress up..... I might be in the water in 2 or 3 more years.

With plenty of time on our hands, I thought I would work on my 5 year CM boat project!

I bought 4 pieces of aluminum Taco Marine rub rail from Rubrail.com to match the original trim. They were half the $$$ of West Marine or anyone else on the Net.

It’s been a long time since I screwed rub rail on a boat but it actually looked pretty good. I’ll install the end pieces and insert, tomorrow.

I also refurbished the trailer- repacked bearings, new tires, re-carpeted the bunks, acid washed the aluminum, re-wired the lights and powder coated the fenders.

My brother challenged me to get it done and take him for a ride this summer. Just need to find some steering, mount the engines and 50 other things.....

Cheers-
