Sealed the halves and installed a set of rivits, one about every 3", then the rubrail goes on with a rivit about every 3". So all in all there is a rivit installed about every 1.5".

Funny enough, my old Grew needed some transom reinforcements. We talked about splitting the two halves and putting new plywood in. But we opted for just putting a stainless steel reinforcement panel on the back instead. It seems to have done the trick.

The only glassin' I did was when I was a kid. My seaflea was suffering from a case of dry rot in the transom area. So we replaced some of the wood and tried putting some fibreglass cloth on the back to seal it up. As much as I tried though, I could never get it smooth. So when I see the job you did I'm amazed.

Smooth glass, its getting easer as I go along. I have done some glass work, but nothing this involved. Lots of sanding.

At least you are gettin there... Also, what happened to all my other posts? Censoring me?

Checkmates may not be the fastest boats on the water, but they are the nicest looking!

Sort of, you and chris seemed to have worked everything out, so I cleaned up the thread.

Can't wait to rig. Just recieved my steering in the mail. Bought a teleflex NFB pro rack dual cable set up. This will replace the worn out single cable that came with the boat.

Now to just finish the darn thing.

SUMMER IS COMMING FAST!!!!!

Gus, if you have not though about this yet, you might want to take a little time and make sure the bottom of the boat is straight when you are all done. When you pop the deck, and gut her, it can have a tendency to reshape itself a little. More times than not, it is very minor, but I have seen on rare instance that the boat twisted so much, the driver could not handle it. A good way to tell if not much moved is if the deck slid back on with out too much persuasion.

I thought of that Bill, and was wondering the same thing. Be for I poped the deck I shored up the hull, a little added support to help the trailer. The deck went back on real easy. I was thankfull I did not have to muscle it to much.

Cool, It is great to see someone dedicated to keeping the classics on the water. My old Diplomat is not as aged as yours, but I still think it is a classic and hope it goes to a good home. One reason why I traded it to Rick 300 miles away was so I did not have to see someone beat the crap out of it after I pent so much time and money on the little lady! Keep up the good work!!!

I agree, this little boat is growing on me. During the restoration it has won a few battles, but I think I am wining the fight.

I'd think so. Next you'll have to fight the battle of set-up...

Spent the day yesterday pulling out the old helm and steering cables. Installed new dual cable helm and ran the cables. Istalled the jackplate on the engine and measured and marked the transom for new mounting holes. What a pain that was. Ended up having to drill new holes the jackplate as the older mercs have a different mounting pattern. Was going to drill and test fit the motor but the weather is not helping today.
