Yellowfiero's playmate resto!

Started working on the playmate today. I got the old 50 mariner pulled and started to do some work on the new power but got side tracked cleaning the garage. Kinda hard to work when you cant find tools and are tripping over stuff. I am kinda excited about my sickness of not leaving anything alone:banana:

Disconnected the battery!

I found out why its so slow, I been dragging this damn anchor around!

And off it comes!

Time for the new power. I picked up this 1988 low hour merc 90ELOPT for a song. It needs a new stator installed and the lower unit has some cracks around the prop that have been JB welded together. I picked a entire electrical system up off ebay through a boat salvage yard. The owner is real good to deal with and offered a warranty on all the parts he sold. I also found a lower unit but I am kinda unhappy with it as the skeg is a lot worst than he described. I can always install a skeg guard or have a friend weld the dings and then reshape the skeg.

Well now that I over worked the crap out of my back I am going to take some asprin and wash them down with some bud lights:eyecrazy::cheers:

So here is where I need some input!!! I have to do something with the paint as the PO was not a painter. I cant even call them runs they are so bad!! I could call them puddles tho. I am going to sand it but I am thinking about having a wrap done on it. The paint job I want will be prob close to 200hrs of work or maybe even more. I really want some details in here that would be very easy with a printer but take hours with an airbrush. Any input on it either way??

Also left over from my outboard enchanter I have some gauges...same as in wasted income. They are easy to read and a good looking gauge IMO! I requested a 60 mph speedo when I bought them but for some reason they sent me an 80 mph one. I am sure it will hit near 80 but only on the trailer!

hey yellow you at it again i see.:bigthumb: there is nothing like a good project. i think the gauges are cool, i like the white face. as for as the rap, i dont know because i never seen one.:( good luck with the resto and i will be watching you.:D

I talked to randy in the beginning of december about the power and he thought it will work just fine on the boat with out being to heavy. I am going to run a little setback but not sure about a jackplate (Robbie, can I barrow you bracket off the enforcer:thumb:). The 50 had no trim and it was a real pain. The nice thing about the setup (not sure if they were all setup like this) is that the controls are the same as the I/O's. It makes it nice not having that thick control box and it has the power trim switches built in.

EZ, I always have a project or 5 going!! Part of my A.D.D.!

What a great project! You're doing what a lot of us on here have dreamed of, owning a Playmate GT with more power! Going to be fun watching this thread.

You sure can, let's see a 24" gil bracket on 13' mate with a 90hp hanging off the back. Yep that would work.:eyecrazy::banana:

This is gonna be cool!

I like the paint... sure its alot more work- but in the end its a piece of art, in my eyes. I have an appreciation for those that can do great paintwork... a skill that I lack, and few actually have- imo.

I think that it will be really neat either way, though.

I have seen some fantastic wraps out this way, I am sure they (sign/graphics people) are equally talented out your way.

My only fear would be that you are pretty compulsive about your stuff, and no matter how clean the wrap is, it will never have the depth and reflection of paint....JMO.

Either way, good luck!

By the way, I always knew you were and O/B guy deep down inside.

Plus, girls like O/B's.............. LOL!

LMAO! Yea the Enchanter is the first I/O I have owned. I have had a 19' enchanter with a merc150, a 21' enchanter with a merc275, baja with a johnny85, and grew up an a glastron with a merc 115. I guess I am also a merc guy also:thumb:

BTW, Megan was out in the garage most of the day helping me on the boat. Even better she did all that work just for some sex!!!

First, good luck on this project,:thumb: I really apprieciate the distraction from winter it will provide.

I'm with HD on this, I would look at a great wrap or two before I went that way(finish and shine in particular). I'd want to know how much prep they will do to get the boat smooth before the wrap goes on? If you end up stripping and sanding the boat for the wrap...well, while it's not the whole job, it is enough that you may want to finish it anyway.

Rob

Rob, I will have to sand the boat either way I go. The runs in it are real bad and would show right through the wrap. I would hate to do all that expense to get rid of the runs and have them show right back through.

I still don't know 100% what graphics I am doing but I am thinking I want to paint it to look like "battle ship iron" for the base. Then the graphics will be painted over that and areas will look like its "torn away" showing the battle ship graphics. I don't know yet, just throwing ideals out there for now. The enchanter was in the booth with the green sprayed before I gave any thought to the graphics. 5 minutes I was spraying them out on it. I figure its small enough that I can take my time and put some detail into it. Its also light enough that I can put it on the wave runner cart and wheel it around.
