Yellowfiero's playmate resto!

So I am now into it with a couple dollars. I went and bought all stainless hardware today to bolt everything together. I drilled and bolted the base of the bracket through the transom plate and all the way into the boat. I was amazed at how super strong it is. I am still waiting to get a plate to go across the outer mounts between the angle's and the motor. The motor will bolt into the angle's but I figure the plate will make it more rigid. I will prob start polishing it all up monday.

I am now wondering if this is enough to just bolt it together and leave it at that or does it need to be welded???? Any input???

So I got bored after dinner so I went back out into the garage. It was either that or fall asleep on the couch. I got the compressor fired up and started polishing away.
I will get the slits welded up where I had to cut and bend for the body line but I don't think I am going to weld on the jack plate.

I dropped off the transom plate to get welded today. Should be done tomorrow a.m. So I am hoping to get it mounted and maybe get the motor hung by the end of the week. I think I am going to get it all rigged for this year then next winter, strip it and redo the paint work. I will prob just run a buffer over it to shine it up a little for now.

I plan to bring back the shine on my slider plates (aluminum) this spring, but I would like it to last.

What type of sealer are you thinking???

Looks good all polished up, I used to spend hours polishing my tunnel on my sled, not my favorite job but it was worth it in the end.

Got a little bit done tonight. Here is the wiring mess I am dealing with. Not that bad once I break it down. Should be a somewhat simple install once I get the new gauges layed out.

How the hell can a 13' boat have all this wiring in it??!!! Might I add there is only 1 electrical gauge in this boat:confused:

Also got the old steering system removed. The new setup will be here friday!

The same way a 24' boat has it. The PO leaves the wire in place and adds more.:brickwall:

My 2008 is much better (not perfect, but better) with the Smart Craft set-up, but my old Checkmates weren't going to win any awards for rigging/wiring.

Hopefully things get better and better with the newer boats.

Got the motor mid section cleaned, sanded and primered the nicks for some new black paint. I need to read on how to replace the trim pump tomorrow and I might shoot some paint so she is ready to hang next week.

I got the mid painted tonight. Tho it does not show well in the pic, it turned out real slick. I took it with the clear gun in my other hand and it flowed out nice while drying.

I also got the gas tank, water temp gauge and sender.

Also got a couple electrical parts to start rewiring it. Fuse block, lanyard kill switch, etc!

Brian,

The mid section looks real nice. The new supplies will keep you busy over the weekend.

I have to take my hull off the trailer and flip it over this weekend. There are a few places on the keel where the gelcoat is worn away from the PO
beaching it. I have pure white gelcoat coming in from a distributor in FL.

It was a toss up between AWL-GRIP or gelcoat. I leaned towards punishing myself. I will be better off in the long run.

Keep up the good work. I am learning from you guys everyday.

Jim
