1975 Vmate restoration

Here is one . Still need to trim it some and get a better fit . But not bad for not having the original to use as a template .

Looking good Will.

At the back mine was angled at the same angle as the rear bench.
It also didn't go quite that far forward.

Thought I would let you know in case that helps.

I noticed that today while I was playing around with this that it needs to be angled in the back some . Maybe tuesday if I have time ill drive out and pick up some foam ....

Checkmate Restoration

Will, Just finished reading your 41 page novel. great thread and great work. You checkmate is going to be a beauty!
I have a 1974 16.5' Open bow Checkmate with a 115 Evenrude. I bought it new in 74 in Bossier City, LA while stationed there in the Air Force. I have hauled it all over the US and repaired it from time to time.... I'm currenlty tearing into the floor. and as your found the core and most of the center floor rotten..
Is there a reason that Checkmate did not fiberglass the center flooring used to cover thier flotation foam?
Did I miss it but what did you do the flooring with? Marine grade plywood? 3/8 inch?
Doyou end up sealing the back of the flooring where the drain plug sets? it aapear there is a half circle hole left in the floor?....
Best of luck as you finish up!!
Richey

The half circle was cut for the bildge pump to sit down in . Im not quite sure why checkmate didnt glass the entire floor buf mine is . I didnt have any rotten core in mine just the floor stringer and transom.

foam

Will, I will be using a closed cell foam when I make my panels. I use the type that is used under vinyl tops. It doesn't hold moisture and you can sculpt it and sand the corners. It's used everywhere in creating street rod interiors. Just a thought.

Question for you, why are your dual steering cables coming in from both sides? On my dual setup, the both come into the well from the drivers side.
