89 Starliner Factory Refirb

i think i'd have them quote both with and without flake...that's if you really did want to add some flake to it. this is your chance to get it exactly how you want it and you likely/hopefully won't be getting this chance again. your boat is definitely going to be a one of a kind machine with all of the upgrades/modern boat adds you are throwing in. looking forward to see a finished and action shot.

You must not be married;)

Just old, my Wife has about given up trying to change my spending ways.

Sam's boat is going to look great either way, and I totally get being torn between keeping original colors or flaking it out.

I just Love telling everyone else how to spend their money.

More info:

Talked with Dean again yesterday. They've begun the interior and started cutting the vinyl, so I'm locked into my color scheme now. BUt we talked about adding some flake to the white and possible a pin stripe or two to make it pop. They're going to prep it all before the Holiday's and then shoot it in the new year. The speaker tubs are good to go, they'll fit, but what the panel will look like remains to be seen...going to be some R&D prototype work as they'll be one offs. Looks like I'll be adding a new rub rail since it's the only thing left on the boat.

Trying to decide if I should spring for new pop up cleats...retractable stern light...etc, etc. Whaddya think?

Personally I like the clean look, no handrails, pop up cleats, lights etc. I think it all depends on how much you want the liner to look original.

I love the hand rails...I don't know why, but I think they make the boat. I know it's been discussed many times as they tend to be kind of polarizing. But, they're staying. The pop up cleats on m ranger are kick ass. Also when ever I tow the kids with the mate, the rope always needs to be lifted over the corner so it doesn't catch on the cleats.

If I'd known were were going to have open water up here on 13 Dec, I'd have told them to rush. :eyecrazy:

Pop up cleats are great, I miss the handrail that my Eluder had and the Pulsare does not have. While a boat may look cleaner with out one they are too useful at the dock to live without. Everyone ends up grabbing the boat by the windshield to hold her steady and they are just not made to take that abuse for long.

I love the hand rail look as well. The guy I bought my Starliner from took it off and threw it out. When I restored the boat I put a brand new one on. Pop up cleats are cool but neither here nor there for enhancing the look. If I only had money for one thing I would do the flake. Classic old school all the way.

I have the bow rails on my 2800 an I can tell you from experience they get useds..holding the boat at the dock, hanging fenders from and most importantly a feeling of security when you're on the topdeck doing the "Frankenstein walk" while trying to anchor and the boat is rocking!!

My opinions,

Good idea going with no flake. That scheme you have is the best on Flites/liners. Adding a white stripe to the bow on the style line would look good.

Keep the hand rails.

Since you have a BR, the pop up light will work. It's a pain to climb over the windshield every time you turn on the lights.

Toss up for the pop up cleats. At least do one on the bow.

AND ABOVE ALL... DO NOT TINT THE WINDSHIELD!

I cant wait to see it finished by the way. :thumb:

I was actually thinking about not going with the pop up lights due to crawling all the way to the bow to pop the light. It's still a long ways up there.

Styleline...are you talking about the raised area where the center cleat is on the bow?

The pop up cleats are getting added.

I'm not a fan of the tint windshields either. On some boats they actually look pretty good...but not this one.

I have the pop up light on the 270BR, it is quite nice when beached I don't worry about the family having an accident sliding over the front. Worst case put in in and just leave it up if you think you are going to need the lights. Like everyone, cant wait to see the finished product!!

Update

Just got some pics from Kip. They filled in some of the old holes on the console, dash and gunnel for the new controls. The new Merc Blue gel really pops when next to the old, dull faded out gel.

Before with all the old holes:

After with patched up consol, dash and side...MUCH BETTER!!!

Forgot to add that the pop up cleats require a little more work than previously thought. The forward bulkhead and all the foam needs to be removed to install the new pop up cleat and the new pop up bow light. Oh well...I'm pissing in the ocean at this point in terms of $$ spent.
