lake cumberland poker run!

I will talk to powers that be about this. I will garranty me and 4 or 5 boats from up this way will come down regardless. Don't think " Checkmate Marine " will get as involved as full sponsership .....but maybe in some fashion. Dave @ C-Hawk would most likely say same thing. Seams that the less organized events like this are ....the more fun they are ! Long as everyone knows when to show up...... sure it would be a great time ! No or less liability that way....that's what scares companys away from events like this.
100% understood the full sponsorship and liability that a company takes by putting their name on the event. It was said that this was tried a few years ago and CM got some feathers ruffled (not sure how true that is) and that is not what we want to do. If they offered some help or even a little promotion it would be great. The main reason I asked you Kip in that PM was I wanted to make sure we did not upset anyone up at CM. Thanks for the response Kip and we look forward to hearing what the powers that be have to say about this event.

As for liability I think it is understood that everyone is responsable for their boat, trailer, and any actions they take while down there. May be a good ideal to have a waiver for people to sign before we start.

Barry, I will give you a buzz tonight.

thanks kip, any support would be apreciated. looks like all we need is a date and put the word out. like kip said, sometimes less is more!:thumb:

So after talking to Barry tonight, we settled on the run being 7-10-10. We will still be working out some details but we now have the date set!
We also talked about starting the run at conley bottom ( http://www.conleybottom.com/ ) runnning to the damn then tying up around the islands for a big float and party.

That's too early guys! 7/16-18 or 7/30 thru 8/1 would be best!

7/10 is the weekend after the 4th of July weekend and I cannot do
back to back weekends due to work - work with me on this one huh?
I bring 3 maybe 4 Checkmates in my crew, don't do it without us.
So 7/16?

I will get in touch with Barry tomorrow. Either date works for me so I am sure it will not matter.

I am up for either date. I hope that this place has a nice place to stay and a nice bar that is close. Let me know I may be able to get a group of checkmates from my area to go. I have never been to this lake, how rough does it get? Alot of checkmates near me are from 20 to 24' in length.

Jason, Cumberland is a real nice mostly smooth lake. I am not saying it don't get some chop but nothing that a small mate can't handle. IMO its the best and smoothest water around this area. I grew up down there on a 15' tri-haul so any mate should not have a problem. I might even bring my little 13' playmate:thumb:

The Boozen you'll be doing is on your Boat,So bring plenty!

So I take it that it is not as bad as the ozarks as far as water patrol? At the ozarks if you do not have a designated driver, then you are in trouble.

Thanks,

jason

John or Barry could answer this better but I believe its all dry countys down there??

I do know as long as your not acting retarded you will have no problems. The only time I have seen the WP is around the falls where people will get so drunk they cant even swim then try to climb up and jump off them. When I rented a boat a couple years ago, the guys at conley bottom told me to drink whiskey from a mt dew 20oz!!! and if you see the po po, don't salute him with your bud light in that hand!

i can work with either date. as far as rough water, nothing that any size mate can't handle. like brian said, water patrol is very friendly, don't do anything stupid and no problems. all areas around cumberland is dry, bring your own drink. lee's ford marina has a full bar and jamestown just went moist. i don't know what jt will be doing yet. plenty of food and lodging on or near the lake, please go check thier web sights and see what works best for you. if i can answer any question just ask. this is gonna be fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bigthumb::cheers:

Yeah, this has the potential to have a really good turnout
like I had hoped the Checkmate poker runs to have, the cmpr
was always a great time but the turnout was always weak.
I have been the last 3 yrs consecutively and each yr the
number of boats to attend declined.

As Barry has mentioned there are plenty of places to eat right on
the lake, Lee's Ford Marina, Conley Bottom and Jamestown Marina's
all serve good food. The surrounding counites are dry so BYOB and
beer. Most of the Marinas have dock space for overnight docking for
a small fee ($10) and Conley has a courtesy docking area just outside
of the Marina free of charge and will accommadate at least 10 boats.
Some choose to find a nice secluded cove and throw anchor for the
night - we've done it countless times! Choose your poison.

Hey Barry and Brian, I will help anyway I can so keep me posted on
your thoughts, I am usually at CB every other weekend with few
exceptions throughout the spring and summer. I have a good friend out
of Burnside who is a Cumberland lifer who knows everyone and he could
pull some strings for sure. Sounds like this could be the start of an annual
goodtime gathering, I hope it all pans out like I think it can!:)

Well I just sercured the 17th off.Cooley looks like a nice central location on the lake.Run to lee's for a drink with lunch, The party cove is just around the corner somewhat.JT and state dock not far either.I can stay on the boat or camp.Depending on the # of campers there is,I can get there early am thurs and try to sercure a nice waterfront spot.
The water conditions has never been anything than perfect when I've been down so OB's make your plans and come down.I'll save U a spot at Camp Mercury:p

I spoke with the wife last night so it looks like we'll be making the trip from SC up to Kentucky for the event. Hey Merc can I hang with you guys even though I got a Johnnyrude hanging off the back?

So it looks like everyone is in for 7-17-10 then. I will be camping also, I got the merc-ruser so looks like I should be able to hang!!!! Depending on whats going on, one of my friends might bring the playmate down also.

Robbie, next time you talk to rod (old hickory) make sure he knows that he IS to come, LOL! I got plenty of room in my boat if his is not done.

I've got to be a real bastrd- I've got an omc on the mate and mercruiser power in the others...:p if at all possible, we'll be there in somthing that floats:thumb:

Don't know what I'd take... everything will work down there. We might even head down to watts bar lake to the gf sisters for a few days after the meet. I'll be keeping my eyes on the thread to see what the date ends up being and what everyone has planned for accomodations- then just go from there... so far 7-17-10 it sounds like???

Cumberland...

Hea i have a suggestion.......maybe you should call this " Checkmate Owners Rally or Regatta " ? Didn't know if your planning stop's , etc or what as far as calling it a Poker Run ? We could advertise it on our factory site ......maybe some magazine plugs as soon as things are somewhat figured out. Just trying to figure out what you all want to do ....? This going to be a 1 day event or 2 ...? Think i'm planning a vacation around it myself ! Houseboat / dragin the new 2400 BRX behind /stayin for a week or so ....the whole 9 yards ! MAYBE WE COULD EVEN DRAG WILDMAN UP FROM FL .......BIG RED ? !
