Mistress IV - The Conception

Excellent feedback jjg and thanks for the insight:thumb: I will definitely get some solid plugs to try before making any other changes. At WOT the boat tends to chine a little even when I try various trim and jackplate heights. I'm assuming that's because it's ridding on the pad but wondering if you had that experience or if you thought the prop would help?

My results were very similar with the Tempest. It took some driving to get her to settle down, getting too and at max speed. It also wanted to porpose at midrange speeds. The Bravo made all of that go away. I can now cruise at 45 with no bounce and chine walk was much more controlled and only at max trim.
We will see what the lab finishing does to the numbers as soon as I can get her wet.
LC has come up over 2' in the last 24 hrs so there will be a lot of trash out this weekend, maybe I will shoot for next weekend. Plus I need to install my all important cooler mounting system this weekend that I devised.

That looks comfy! How much did those cost to have made? The cushions in my 253 could be more plush for my liking.....

GORGEOUS!

I really like the lines of the hull has the looks of the old 24' Enforcer all over it.

Was just reading through part of your thread and read where you have to pull the cowling to get it in the garage. Hope you figured that out ahead of time ;)
I found out "after" on one where I had just painted the cowling.

So you took possession in mid November and your weather is just now getting nice up there......., I bet it was a long ass winter!

I saw that you had slip covers made for your vee birth cushions. Great idea. Are you planning to weekend or over night on her??
I just sold a 24' Sonic O/B that we stayed on all the time.

Thanks for the admiration of my new love !!! Actually I only need to take the cowling off to clear the overhead door springs. Once I clear that I'm good. :thumb:
Spent 2 nights on her over memorial day weekend. We slept great on the new memory foam cushions !!! I have a nice hatch fan to keep the air moving all night so we both were very comfortable. Only thing I need is a coffee maker now !

Very cool.

I've never slept better than I have on my boats.
Good for you for getting a good mattress.
Funny when we mention staying on our boat down here in Fla most think we're crazy because of the heat/humidity.
If you stay at anchor and anchor off the bow, you will always be bow into the wind. If your hatch ('s) face forward. I had to reverse the ones on my Sonic.
W/that, it doesn't take much wind (which there always is down here) to have a nice breeze bellow deck.
Our friends were always shocked at how comfortable it was bellow deck even in the sun.

As to coffee, been there, done that ;)
I've owned probably ten DC coffee pots. One worked :p
Unfortunately, I let it go w/one of the boats we sold and couldn't remember where I got it.
My most recent attempts all failed. We had dual batteries on the Sonic so I'd set it to one and turn on the pot.
45 mins later we'd have a 1/2 pot of "warm" coffee and a dead battery.

In the Keys, I paddled the dinghy to shore, jumped on my bike and rode to K-Mart and bought this.

1/2 hr later we had an empty propane bottle and a 1/2 pot of "warm" coffee.

I refused to accept defeat so I came up with this and it worked great!
But was a pain and dangerous if at anchor due to boat rocking.

Right before we sold that boat, I installed and inverter and bought a $15. AC pot and it worked great :brickwall:
One of my boating buddies told me to give up and switch to mountain Dew.

These are a great $20. investment too.

A killer breakfast on my propane grill.

When I started doing this 30 yrs ago on a 19' cuddy, I figured out the key to a successful weekend is to take care of your 1st mate.
We'd anchor off the beach, I'd blow up my $40. Walmart inflatable, paddle us to shore, set up our beach chairs and table, fire up my $20. grill and make dinner and watch the sun set.
Used to get compliments from the guys on the big boats anchored near by.
One guy off a 44' Sea Ray walked by w/his wife and saw our 3 course breakfast and said he got Cheerioes that morning :D

Don't get much better than a weekend on the boat gone well.

Another secret was to spend the 2nd night at a nice marina w/a real restroom/shower and a dock to get on/off the boat from.

We are getting ready to relocate to the Cinci area so will probably end up w/a cuddy for the river before ending up w/a full cruiser on Lake E
rie like we had before.

If your going to be in cincy make sure you make a trip to lake cumberland. It is much warmer than the river.
Im kicking around a small propane grill just for what you described. The magna is nice but a little pricey. Coleman has a few smaller options. We will see. Were still figuring out what is best.
We stayed at the dock last weekend and the shower and restroom was nice after a hot day on the water !!!

Size was my main priority. What I've been using folds up to a size not much bigger than a shoe box. Stored forward of the porta potti.
I've probably owned 5 or 6 of them. I like it too because it has a lid which I use quite a bit.
There are some new, 2 burner, propane camp stoves that are very nice and compact. Need to be sure and get the ones w/the wind shelters though.

I'm an Ohio boy and have been to Cumberland and Dale Hollow.
I lived in Columbus though and spoiled myself w/the Lake Erie islands. The lake will bight your ass in a hurry though but is part of the allure ;)

Thanks guys !! Liz, fastcheckmates wife is the master behind the camera, even after a few morning mamosas her artistic eye was as keen as ever.

Prop Testing Info.

As I have had an entire season to run my new girl I have also had the opportunity to test several different props. There seems to be a few new faces here with new 2400LD's or 24BRX's so this info may be of some help.
All speeds are GPS. Gear ratio 1.75 w/6" setback. All props tested with PVS system had holes plugged. All testing done with full tank of fuel minimal gear and driver only aboard.

The baseline was the 23p Tempest plus 73.5 @ 6500rpm - 2.5" below pad @ 9% slip. - Hole shot was terrible easy to blowout, midrange was anemic.

24p Bravo1 Labbed by Bblades (23.3 actual pitch) 71mph @ 6250rpm - 2.5" below pad @ 10% slip.
Great holeshot & midrange, top end suffered a bit. Will be converting to FS style.

24p Rev4 72mph @ 6250rpm - 3.25" below pad @ 11% slip.
Terrible hole shot easy to blowout, midrange was just ok top end was a bit better than the bravo.

23p Enertia ECO 70mph @ 6150rpm 3.25" below pad @ 9% slip.
Ok hole shot decent midrange, due to the large 16" dia. it did a good job of keeping the boat on top of the chop unlike the 23 tempest I tested.

24p Bravo FS (23.3 actual pitch) 72.5mph @ 6450rpm 2" below pad @ 11% slip. Excellent holeshot, midrange has great punch, overall ride quality best out of any prop tested. Seems to keep boat on top of chop very well with top end closest to the baseline tempest.
