SCT's New Pulsare

A few rumors are floating that Merc has a few motors brewing in the "X" department that will be more environmentally friendly...

maybe a 300XS Optimax...???

maybe a 350hp Verado...???

I guess we all wait on pins & needles to see what comes along...

YEP! Basically the 300X is a dinosaur, and they've milked it as long as possible. We'll see an Optimax version that will be 300+ hp as soon as they've sold all the old tech EFI 300X motors. You know there'll also be a 300+ hp Verado soon. 4-strokes are SOOOO easy to hop up

Another one to watch closely is the ETEC Evinrude. The ETEC injection seems to be superior to the Orbital Optimax injection, so there'll be a 'green' motor horsepower war very soon!

All good news to us Checkmate owners, as our boats can easily handle the massive weights of the new motors. Feel sorry for the STV/Triad/Allison/Mirage boys!

I hear you JW...

The Verado proto's were "hush...hush" getting 350hp and they "detuned" them for production... Staying conservitive makes them last longer...not that 4 strokes wear much anyway!!! Have you SEEN one of these monsters...they are massive!... but at nearly 700 pounds, for that weight I could have twin 280's...and ponie up 560hp!!!

The ONLY bad parts to the new BIG HORSEPOWER outboards is the WEIGHT, overall SIZE, and MORTGAGE it's going to take to buy one...$25,000???

Jim,
I agree with you on the Verado....Merc has to put the Verado on a diet....even at 350 HP.

The marina found my engine!! It's been missing in shipping for the last week. It should be here tomorrow or Wednesday.

I'll be on the water next week!

How excited are you SCT!

They did a 250xs vs. 250verado test in Bass and Walleye. I couldn't get over how the verado made the 250xs look small! They ran the verado to 6100r's and the 250xs was outside it's rpm range on the low side. Verado won top speed honors, but it looked like the xs could have equaled or bettered it with the right pitch.

How tough was proping the 300 Shannon? Did you like it's overall performance? I'm curious as I've been thinking of swapping to a 300 as they aren't priced too far out of the park as the 300x is.

I'm almost done with the rig job. I'm just waiting on a few parts from my local marina. Can you believe Mercury is getting over a $150.00 for a remote plastic oil tank, bracket and lines? What a rip off. I should have bought a used one off of S&F.

Another problem is my 12'Rapid Jack is not getting me enough vertical heigth. I'm on the top hole on the jp and motor side but the prop shaft is showing 3/4" to 1/2" below the pad. I was hoping to be even or a 1/2" above the pad being 12" of set back. I want to see how it runs before coming up w/ a solution.

The 300x is the same 3.0L block has my old 225EFI and 300PM.....but the similarities end right there. It has a totally different fuel rail and intake from a 300PM (they are a pretty straight foward engine even for a novice like me). Also, the engine is wired for the new Merc SmartCraft gauges and the old analog stuff so there are a ton of wiring harnesses under the cowl. I was talking to a guy that had a 300PM and a 300x on the same boat, and he said the "x" was night and day compared to the older 300PM. It should be interesting to see.

I'm going to try a 26' Trophy has an all around prop and a 28' ET as a top end prop. I still think it will run 93-95 on the gps.

I have the boat in rack storage at my local marina on Lake Norman in Charlotte. The stands are the wash racks.....or rig stands for me.

JW, my new trailer is in storage. It was almost 60 in CLT this weekend......how was MI? Any engine leads 4 the Vector?

Might have found a motor, not sure yet. 1987 Mariner Magnum EFI 2.4 liter. It's either a 200 or a 220, not positive yet. Trying to get the guy to e-mail me back..................
