To say the Baja/Checkmate rivalry has taken an ironic twist would be an understatement. In 6 1/2 years on the site I don't think I have ever seen a debate as fiery as this one. It's fun to mix it up a bit but I just hope it doesn't permenently taint the forum. One of the reasons I don't spend much time on Scream and Cry is because of the amount of bad-mouthing the members do of each other. The personal attacks come across as juvenille and petty.
This forum by contrast has been a community of enthusiasts with amazing commoradory and respect. So many are willing to freely offer one another help. Chris has done an incredible job of moderating the site and maintaining a positive tone. Let the debate continue, but I think we owe it to him to keep it on the high road.

i guess if someone could post some stats on this new boat maybe that would clear a few things up.....

motor baja? checkmate?
outdrive baja? checkmate?
horsepower baja? checkmate?
top speed baja? checkmate?
price baja? checkmate?
guages baja? checkmate?
number of women expected to be around the boat?
ect......ect.....ect.....

maybe this would clarify a few of the disputes going on knowing if c-mate actually did some improvments up to the "c-mate standards".

Sorry for my delay to your reply but its not easy snatching the proto type for a test drive that was harder than me getting the pics.

" BIG REDS " test review
Some of my findings may not be 100% correct I was forced to drink beer before the test

Big20Reds20New20Baja20H2X20002.jpg

Engine ++ 225 slant six I/O
Horse Power ++ it will take a tow-rig with about 700hp to hall it
Comfort ++ Not to good I forgot the optional seat package
Handling ++ like a shrimp boat stuck on a sandbar
Stopping ++ stops like a rock when you let off the throttle
Over all sex appeal ++ Not to good
Cove and tie up review ++ You must remain sober or you will forget which H2X is yours at the tie up.
Resale value ++ Looks good I seen a crap load on boat trader that people are trying to sell. Most of them said make offer
Appearance ++ looks like every other H2 that has been made for the last 15 years
Speed ++ Not bad I was only past by 3 people pulling tubes

Overall review
This is a good boat for the average Joe. The guy that does not like any attention and that wants to blend in with everybody else and not be noticed. I recommended this to the married guy that does not want to be aggravated by hot chicks asking for a ride in his boat. If you have a 35 mph speed limit on your lake this boat will gurantee you no tickets.

And yes I will approve it for the 40- Club

Red, your review was hilarious! (where can I find someone to force me to drink beer?). anyhow, one thing I gotta give the baja folk is the sex appeal part... check out the teambajamarine site. they have a photo gallery there and just by sheer numbers of bajas out there, the gallery is huge. they even have a bikini section and alot of those chicks are definitely hot enough to ride on any checkmate! I liked the part about not being able to tell which h2x to board after a day of denting cans at the sandbar.

well I'm sober now, and I re-read my post that had sct; BR and ross turning up the volume on the "mocking bird". However; even though I DID INDEED mis read those two quotes, I don't think I'm completely off the mark. I do think checkmate will make the ZT 244 a legitimate performance boat. I do think the boat will probably break 70mph( we all read that speculation from checkmate). I do think it will surprise most everyone here. I do think it will continue in the checkmate tradition of excellence. And I do think it will put the pressure on Fountain.

I can only imagine the nose thumbing Carroll Shelby got when he came up with the idea to put an american V-8 (Ford "production performance" was not their forte at the time) into a "has been" british AC Ace(not the first time it was attempted by the way). We all know the legend from here. The Shelby Cobra put the Ford/Shelby partnership on the map and spawned all of the performance options for the Mustang, even to this day. There was certainly head wagging then, just as there is head wagging now on this forum. I say lets wait and see......I personally want to be a bit more positive about it.

OLD HICKORY

Put preassure on Fountain are you joking if they wanted that played out hull they would have not been sending it to the dump.

Here are some pics of a Fountain at the show the upholstery cost more than the Beckmate is worth.

I love the Speedos EVERYWHERE!!!

I see that often now, on high end boats.

I think the Pulsare (not as high end as the boat in Reds Post) needs another Speedo or 3.

Like I said; lets wait and see what the final numbers are. A Fountain is not a boat for the masses; they are impressive, but I can't afford one and I don't know many people who can..... let's just say I don't rub shoulders with that kind of money. I can afford some of the models in the Checkmate line and certainly many in the Baja line.

But neither I or you are comparing a Fountain to a Baja or Checkmate. What I am saying is, lets see how Checkmate improves the ZT 244 vs what Fountain does with their Baja in a similar class. And that is what is so interesting about my observation. Whether intentional or not, Checkmate and Fountain are now going for bragging rights; essentially using boats cut from the same cloth.

So now Fountain tosses this mould aside in favor of what....redesigning a new boat? If the Checkmate ZT 244 performs as well or better than the Fountain designed/produced Baja offering; then Checkmate becomes the clear winner! And everybody will be happy; Checkmate fans and Baja fans. Fountain will be the big loser because they will have done less with more and Checkmate will have done more with less.:thumb:

We already know Checkmate has some great performance boats; Fountain unquestionably has great performance boats let's see how their respective teams do with this little head to head.

BR, you've posted some good stuff on this thread and I have laughed alot while reading it. I just have a different perspective on where this might be headed.

You are exactly right, we all do not have to agree. But you and I still agree on 1 thing. Long live Mother Mopar! boatman:cheers:

Yeah pretty much! The way things are going, who knows how many brands will be left before long.

At the end of the day, we all share the common interest and passion for boating - and to me at least that's the main thing. :thumb:

I am just going by the tabloids, but I believe Fountain only took the bigger molds. They were not interested in building anything under like 25'?? So, I don't believe Checkmate got what Fountain didn't want because of looks, but because of size.

If that is the case, then there are only a few size models that both Foountain and Checkmate will have in their line-ups.

I could be wrong, but I thought I read that somewhere.:o

Red, did you hear this as well?

They are building the Hammer X (22'), the 247 Islander, 245 and the 23 Outlaw. They dropped the 20 Outlaw, and 192 & 202 Islanders.

I knew i was wrong....Thanks!:brickwall:

So it appears that there is a significant overlap in I/O's...I retract my previous statement.

Interesting.
